Foxborough Pride Showing Up on Town Fire Hydrants

What do you think of the new color scheme of the fire hydrant at Chestnut and Mechanic streets?

If you were surprised to see a couple Foxborough fire hydrants recently donning the high school’s blue and gold colors you were not alone.

“I was as surprised as [anyone],” said Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill. “We needed to paint a hydrant across from Town Hall and [two weeks ago] the men painted it with as close to Foxborough High School colors as they could using available hydrant paint. I was on vacation so I missed it.”

Last Monday, the DPW replaced a broken hydrant on the corner of Chestnut and Mechanic streets – near the set of lights – and repeated the color scheme.

Hill said he has received a number of comments regarding the new colors on hydrants.

“Very few negative and many positive,” Hill said. “I'm ambivalent and will defer to the Water Commission on whether they would like to continue.”

Hill said the town must paint all its hydrants every two years per regulations. That work is typically reserved for the summer.

“We'll know by summer what color scheme will be used,” Hill said.

In the meantime, we’d like to know what you think of the Foxborough High School colors appearing on fire hydrants around town.
