Foxborough Country Club gets OK on Alcohol

Selectmen have given the Foxborough Country Club permission to sell alcohol from a cart near the fairway.

Foxborough Selectmen have given the Foxborough Country Club permission to sell alcohol from a cart near the fairway grounds.

A new state law was recently enacted giving country clubs the OK to sell alcoholic beverages from a cart near the fairway. Town Manager Kevin Paicos was pleased and impressed that Foxborough Country Club took the correct legal actions to obtain permission for alcohol service rather than serving without permission - an action that Paicos says "many other clubs have done."

"When I read about the state changing their liquor license, I knew that we [Foxborough Country Club] would like to do this to take care of our membership," said General Manager Paul Pouliot.

Selectman James DeVellis expressed his concern over some of the problems he has heard about beverage carts at other golf clubs - one of which involves golfers harassing the servers.

The board agreed, 4-0, to approve the application contingent upon Police Chief O'Leary's review.

Selectmen Mark Sullivan reminded Pouliot of the expectations that the board maintains concerning the sale of alcohol.

"The board does not want any problems," noted Sullivan.
