Foxborough Community 'Shocked' Wrestling Coach Charged with Trying to Kill Wife

Foxborough residents told WHDH-TV 7News Monday they could not believe Foxborough High School wrestling head coach James Fraser was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted murder after an altercation with his wife.

The Foxborough High School community cannot believe the news that one of their own has been charged with attempting to kill his wife.

As news broke Monday that Foxborough High School wrestling coach and resident James Fraser, 45, was arrested Sunday after allegedly trying to strangle his wife during a domestic altercation at their Sherman Street home, members of the FHS community told WHDH-TV 7News they were shocked to hear of the incident.

"That's pretty disturbing, scary, glad I don't have a child on the wrestling team that's for sure,” Jeanne Fallon, mother of a Foxborough High School tennis player, told WHDH-TV 7News.

"I just think that's crazy someone could be working with someone in my grade and then all of a sudden you hear something like that,” said Foxborough High School senior Hannah Walsh.

"I was really surprised and it’s unfortunate. I just hope that he gets the help that he needs,” said Kristin Hovey.

FHS student Tim Dure, who wrestled for Fraser this past season, said his coach may be loud and outgoing, according to 7News, but would never hurt his wife.

“I don't believe it,” Dure told 7News. “Honestly, I don't believe he has it in him. The way he is, he lives by his own code. He’s not going to hurt anyone. He’s not going to do that to a woman.”

Fraser, who began coaching wrestling in Foxborough in 2002, was arraigned in Wrentham District Court Monday and released on $2,000 bail.

Foxborough police responded to an emergency 911 call from Fraser’s wife to their residence around 3:43 p.m. Sunday, according to police logs.

Fraser’s wife told police “her husband tried to strangle her and [was] destroying the residence,” according to police logs.

Police said Fraser’s wife had “visual injuries,” according to WCVB. The woman refused medical attention and declined her 209A rights, according to police logs. The couple’s two children were not home at the time of the incident, according to police.
