Does the NFL Have a Drinking Problem?

After violence over the weekend during a Raiders-49ers game, the NFL is looking to crack down on irresponsible drinking at its games.

Tailgaters and binge drinkers are becoming a big concern for NFL arenas throughout the country.

While Foxborough, is currently on discouraging both binge drinking and drinking outside of designated tailgate areas for the upcoming season, other NFL towns are beginning to do the same.

The web of issues concerning binge drinking and tailgating at games are becoming exposed, starting with Saturday night's Raiders-49ers game where two men were shot and another was beaten unconscious in a bathroom.

The mayors of San Francisco and Oakland have now called to end such violence at sports events.

According to AOL's Sporting News, investigators have not officially connected the Raiders-49ers brawl to alcohol, however there is little doubt that alcohol is the "leading generator of fan rowdiness at sports events."

Foxborough has also had it's fair share of rowdy sporting events. AOL FanHouse Columnist David Whitley writes that the "Patriots disappeared from Monday Night Football in the 1970s" after residents and police in Foxborough were exhausted from the pure insanity that came with night games.

"One enchanted evening saw 60 arrests, 100 evictions and 35 people taken to the hospital. A cop was assaulted and had his gun stolen," writes Whitley.

Last season in Foxborough, the New England Patriots and the New York Jets resulted in 106 fans being placed into protective custody. Of those, 90 were placed into protective custody for being publicly intoxicated and 15 were criminally charged.

Should the NFL take action regarding the sale of alcohol at games and get back to better family friendly events? Do you think the NFL has a "drinking problem?" Tell us in the comments!
