Crisis in Japan: Reaching Out to Help

Salvation Army and other agencies respond to relief efforts.

A 8.9-magnitude earthquake rattled and rocked Japan, March 11, triggering a powerful tsunami that crashed upon the country's eastern shore.

Over 3,000 are confirmed dead according to Fox News and thousands are still missing.

Japan's coastal towns are struggling to survive each day, leaving many scrambling to find food, water and shelter.

Even if you live thousands of miles away from the destruction, there are still various ways that you can offer your support to the relief effort.

The Red Cross. You can donate to the effort either online through Red Cross's donation website or via text message. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 from your phone.

The Salvation Army. Visit a Salvation Army center near you to send relief packages to Japan. There are centers located in Norwood, Attleboro, Brockton and more throughout the State.  Call or Text “Japan” or “Quake” to 80888 to make a $10 donation. The Salvation army also has a disaster donation page online at www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org.

Save the Children. Donate directly through their website. Save the Children has already mobilized teams into Japan to help with relief efforts.

Google Person Finder. Google is assisting in helping to locate loved ones in Japan.
