Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with your Family

Some "Dry" ideas to making it a memorable Holiday!

Whether your Irish or not its always fun to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It is a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history and it is happening next week on March 17. There are endless ways to celebrate the holiday and include your kids in all the fun. First you can start by discussing a fun tradition about Leprechauns! Try leaving a trail of penny’s for the Leprechaun’s and these little treasures may be replaced by chocolates if all kiddies go to bed early! Put your own spin on it however you want, but it could make for a good week of bedtime and treasure hunting.

This week take a few minutes to print out some fun St. Patrick’s Day coloring pages and try some online games with your kids at at Kaboose.com. These are fun activities to have handy during a playdate or after school.

Plan an outing with your family! Back in the day many of us looked forward to the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in Southie. But that was then, and standing out in the cold for hours surrounded by coolers filled with, ahhhum, cold beverages, may not be the be most ideal way to recognize the holiday anymore. Lucky you if you still have roots in Southie and plan to attend! The rest of us, well, we are still very lucky because we have a St Patrick’s day celebration looming right here at Patriot Place! Check out the Irish Festival on Saturday, March 12 featuring musical performances, Irish step dancers and so much more! This is great fun for everyone.

Treat your family to some Irish Soda bread! If you’ve never tried it, give it a go. All these ingredients are probably in your cupboard. This is a special recipe shared by my relative, Katie Currul-Dykeman. She is a mother of two especially Irish boys Colin and Patrick of Sharon, Ma. Katie says that she “got this recipe from a wonderful Irish woman in Worcester named Justine Walsh and it was an old family recipe. She made it year round!” Thanks for sharing this secret recipe, now you can make it your own tradition. Enjoy!
