Around Town: Foxborough Function Hall Undergoes Name Change; Selectmen Recognize Special Olympic Medalist Steven Aucoin & More

Foxborough resident Steven Aucoin was recognized by the Board of Selectmen Tuesday for his accomplishments during the 2012 Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games at Harvard University this past summer.

Selectmen clerk Lorraine Brue read an official citation during Tuesday’s meeting to congratulate Aucoin for earning a gold medal in the Games.

“We, the Foxborough Board of Selectmen would like to extend our best wishes and congratulations to Steven Aucoin of Foxborough for his accomplishment of earning an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games.

As a member of the weightlifting team known as The Petty Power Lifters, Steven and his teammates began their training in March at the Foxborough YMCA, under the leadership of their coach Theresa Petty.

After months of training and much support from his family and friends, Steven was able to compete in three events in the heavyweight division: the dead lift, squats and bench press. Steven also competed in the squats event with 165 pounds and dead lifting 225 pounds.

The Board of Selectmen and the residents of the town of Foxborough greatly appreciate Steven’s efforts to train and prepare for participation in the Massachusetts Special Olympics Summer Games and we would like to offer our sincerest congratulations on a job well done.”

Selectmen Approve Name Change to Foxborough Function Hall

Selectmen approved Nicholas Panagopoulos’ request to change the name of Christina’s Restaurant to Green Valley Steakhouse and Demetri’s. Panagopoulos owns the function hall formerly known as Christina's at 2 Washington St.

Selectmen Accept $25K Donation from Foxborough Resident

Selectmen formally accepted Foxborough resident Joan Gallivan’s donation of $25,347.22 for the Charles James Fox Monument Gift Fund from the monument committee. Money is now in the possession of the Town Treasurer to be used to find a permanent, and hopefully, prominent home for the memorial. Read more by clicking here.

Selectmen Approve Bar’s Request for Early Opening During Patriots Games

Selectmen approved Blue Fin Lounge’s request to open at 11 a.m. on Sundays for Patriots’ home games beginning 1 p.m. throughout the 2013-14 season.

Selectmen Appoint Worthley to Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee

Selectmen appointed Foxborough’s Water and Sewer Superintendent Robert Worthley to the Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee. Worthley will replace Roger Hill for a term expiring on July 1.

Common Victuallers Application for Subway Approved

Selectmen approved Thomas Gray of Subway’s request for Common Victuallers application for a new owner of Subway Restaurant at 29 Washington St.
