5 Things: Upcoming Roadwork, Dog Training, Selectmen's Meeting & More

1. Expect Rain and a Possible Thunderstorm Tuesday in Foxborough

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, then showers after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 4 p.m., then Patchy fog after 5 p.m. High near 71. Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Tuesday night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., then a chance of showers after 1 a.m. Patchy fog before 7 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

2. MassDOT to Motorists: Plan for Upcoming Roadwork, Weekend Lane Restrictions in Foxborough

MassDOT is advising motorists of upcoming work on Interstate 95 Southbound in Foxborough and urges them to plan for possible traffic delays due to lane restrictions.

The second phase of the bridge deck wearing surface replacement project on Interstate 95 Southbound over Green Street (Route 106) will require lane restrictions through the weekend of June 14-17, weather permitting.

Contractors will be off the road by 5 a.m. on Monday, June 17th to accommodate the morning rush hour.

A more complete schedule of the weekend work is provided below.

Lane Restrictions on I-95 Southbound from June 14-17 

  • Friday, 8 p.m. – Traffic will be restricted from three lanes to two lanes on the Southbound roadway to perform pavement marking and install temporary concrete barriers to allow for the two high speed lanes of the bridge deck to have the deck wearing surface replaced.
  • Two Available Alternate Routes will be delineated using Message Boards and signing at I-95 Southbound Route 1 and Southbound Route 140 to accommodate the travelling public. (The alternate routes are: Rte 1 South @ Exit 9 to Rte I-495 South back to I-95 or Rte 140 South Exit 7A to I-495 North back to I-95)
  • Bridge Deck Work will continue 24 hours a day over the weekend into Monday morning or until the work is finished.
  • In addition, and to accommodate certain construction operations, i.e. deck excavation and subsequent concrete replacement, traffic will be restricted to only one lane late at night.
  • Monday, 5 a.m. – Traffic will be restored to three lanes Southbound for the Monday morning commute.

3. Dog Training at Don Cotter Recreation Hall Tuesday

There will be a dog training demonstration and question and answer session with the content completely audience generated Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Don Cotter Recreation Hall at 68 Mill St., Foxborough.

Local dog trainer Jane Young teaches all dogs, whether for basic manners or for high-level competition, through strictly positive reinforcement; no fear or pain-based training is used.

Jane has been training dogs for obedience competition for the past 17 years. Along with training her own dogs, Jane teaches for a training center in Franklin. 4. Patriot Place Events

Here’s a look at what’s happening around Patriot Place today:

  • Eastern Mountain Sports Tuesday Night Paddles: Join Eastern Mountain Sports at Patriot Place for Tuesday Night Paddles. Every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to dark. $10 per person will get you equipment and instructions.
  • Noon to 5 p.m. - Free Family Summer Camp Workshops: Come to Bass Pro Shops for a free family summer camp. Enjoy free ranges, catch and release ponds, crafts, workshops, and get a free photo with dad.
  • 11 a.m. - Spring Fever - Bounce Houses: Jump around all afternoon in inflatable bounce houses. Located in the North Marketplace outside of Life is good, enjoy the afternoon as the kids bounce the day away.
  • Storytime at Showcase Cinema de Lux: Meet Bob the Builder at Kids Club Storytime Tuesday at 11 a.m.

5. Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen Meet Tuesday

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss the following town business:

  • Ratify agreement to delete automatic renewal provision of Town Manager Kevin Paicos’ contract; Ratify release of public statement regarding parties’ agreement not to pursue new contract for Paicos.
  • Hold a public hearing to review the application of manager, new officer/director and transfer of s tock of an all alcohol package store license for Route 1 Liquor Mart located at 29 Washington St.
  • Bi-Weekly payroll with Foxborough Finance Director Randy Scollins
  • Hold a public hearing to review the application for the 2013 New England Patriots home games at Gillette Stadium
  • Hold a public hearing to review the application for the US women vs. South Korea soccer match at Gillette Stadium
  • Hold a public hearing to review the application for the Brazil vs. Portugal soccer match at Gillette Stadium
  • Meet with Planning Board to discuss the following: Wayfinding program; Acceptance of FY14 MassDOT Community Transit Grant of $30,720; Request permission to authorize chair to sign applications for FY14 South Coast Rail Technical Assistance
  • Hold a public hearing with Police Chief Edward O’Leary and Town Planner Sharon Wason to review the request for no parking zone at Spring Brook Road and East Belcher Road
  • Discuss traffic plan for 2013 New England Country Music Festival at Gillette Stadium with Police Chief O’Leary
  • Meet in executive session to conduct strategy sessions in preparation for negotiations with non-union personnel or to conduct collective bargaining sessions or contract negotiations with non-union personnel.
