Small Business News: Social Media Content Is Key

Social media experts say that content is key for small business owners.

Social media experts C.C Chapman and Ann Handley named "content" the most important component for gaining customers in their HarborOne U presentation last week.

Chapman and Handley are co-authors of Content Rules: How to Create Killer Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, E-Books,and Webinars. Their seminar provided  insight into the world of social media and how to use it to attract customers, according to HarborOne U's press release.

In the free seminar that attracted more than 100 business owners, Chapman made it clear that "content gets you more customers."

"Whether you want more people at your church or more fans for your rock band, content is what will get you more visibility," said Chapman.

Chapman and Handley went onto tell the crowd that one of the most important things about social media is simply "getting started and to post content consistently."

Many business owners told Chapman that they are hesitant to start down the social media road because of the time commitment that it takes to create perfect content.

"Being perfect isn't necessary and social media content can be created and shared in just a few hours a week," Chapman said.

Many business owners were relived to see that so many others were feeling the same way as them when it comes to using social media.

"It's good to see people who are in the same boat I am," said Kristin Braga owner of The Reserve Wine Shop in Foxboro. "They have kids, a life and their own business. They showed that social media is manageable. You can still get the word out and not be overwhelmed by it."

A Bentley graduate, Chapman is the Founder of Digital Dads, where a Dad can be a guy. He is also the creator and host of the widely popular Managing the Gray podcast and is a member of the Media Hacks and Cast of Dads podcasts, according to the HarborOne U press release.

Handley is the Chief Content Officer of MarketingProfs, a rich and trusted resource that helps businesses market their products and services smarter and better. She is a 12-year veteran of creating and managing digital content to build relationships for organizations and individuals.

The seminar was presneted by HarborOne U in conjunction with The Massachusetts Small Business Development Center.
