The grand opening of Cupcake Charlie’s at Patriot Place on Saturday, May 18, will be a family event offering cupcake giveaways, face painting, a photo booth and a DJ.

Bruce Loewen started Loewen’s Deli about four years ago, despite protests, at the time, from his family.

But in hindsight, Loewen said it was well worth it, and his wife agrees.

Known for Pizza and Subs, Stelio's in Stoughton Adds Breakfast to Menu

Stelio's in Stoughton has been a popular pizza restaurant for some time, with a wide array of pizzas, subs and salads. 

The eatery recently added breakfast to the menu, which they serve seven days a week from 6-11 a.m.

In the wake of an early morning shooting which took place outside Whiplash nightclub on Wyman St. in Stoughton April 21, Police Chief Paul Shastany and Executive Officer (now Deputy Chief) Robert Devine appeared before selectmen April 23 and recommended selectmen take "aggressive" and "bold" action against the club's licenses.

Selectmen later voted to revoke Whiplash's entertainment license, suspend its alcohol license for 30 days (commencing June 1) and to modify the liquor license to impose a closing time of 11 p.m. 

Wrentham

Michael Scouras has been at Nicky’s in Wrentham for more than a decade, but his travels had brought him a lot farther than that.

A musician, Scouras said he’s worked with legends such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Brian Adams and Pat Benatar, just to name a few. He went to more than 54 countries in that line of work.

Though the life of a roadie may seem like a good life, Scouras said after a while it lost its appeal for him.

Town Pizza a True Stroke of Luck

Bill Shehata’s immigration to America, and subsequently coming to Town Pizza in Wrentham, was quite a lucky chance.

Having originally worked in a bus manufacturing plant in Egypt, and upon coming to the U.S., he found manufacturing to be in short supply in 1995.

Hot Dogs and More in Norton started business more than three decades ago, and is still going strong.

Vincent Brown originally built the stand from a wooden trailer car with no doors. Those working the stand used a window to get inside. The business has since been passed down to his son Jim Brown and Barbara's brother, Butch Rich.

Attleboro

Park Street Pizza a Product of Patience

Chris Pennisi and Paul Albrecht opened Park Street Pizza four years ago, and Pennisi said it was a childhood dream come true.

"My buddy and I worked in pizza shops when we were younger and we decided to open our own," Pennisi said.

The two worked at the Sharon House of Pizza for years as children. Pennisi moved on to work in other fields, but Albrecht stayed to learn the trade.

Jonathan Celebration!

There was a small celebration this month at Jonathan's Coffee Cafe in Attleboro, and in its short existence, the cafe has become one of the major daytime social scenes in Attleboro. 

The Union Street business marked its fourth anniversary and Jonathan Friedman, who operates the place with his mother Ann, enjoyed his 28th birthday.

Both milestones actually fell on May 11, but were recognized Friday since Jonathan's is closed on the weekend.

Seekonk's Boneyard Barbecue a Success of Serendipity

Billy Beggs, co-owner of the Boneyard Barbecue & Saloon in Seekonk, said the place got started completely by serendipity.

Beggs, who worked in the corporate world as a manager most of his life, said he and co-owner Carnig Ashchian were united by chance.

The two met and became friends while Ashchian was working at a nightclub in Boston.
