Foxborough to Sponsor 'Miss Foxboro Pageant' April 17

Foxborough will be hosting a 'Miss Foxboro Pageant' on April 17, 2012.

Young women in Foxborough, or in a radius of 25 miles of Foxboro ages 17 - 24 who love the glitz and glamour of pageants, will have an opportunity to compete in spring, 2012.

Foxborough will be hosting a Miss Foxboro Pageant on April 17, 2012.  The last Miss Foxboro pageant, held in 1971 featured Deborah O’Brien of Foxboro; she placed as second runner-up.  Contests of beauty have been around for centuries but it was in the 1960’s that pageants became very popular. This was the beginning of the women’s movement when more and more women became better educated and it was more acceptable for them to be viewed in the public eye.

This exciting opportunity is being brought to Foxborough by Seretha Nobbin.  You could almost say that she was born to be a pageant sponsor.  Although Nobbin was born in Kentucky, she had, until recently moving to Mansfield, called Tacoma, Washington home.  While living in Tacoma, she became involved in the Miss Pierce County Pageant under the guidance of Executive Director, Charlie Van Tramp.  Under Van Tramp’s leadership and guiding hand Nobbin became interested in young people and developed a passion for helping and nurturing young women to achieve their educational and lifelong dreams.  She helped with behind the scenes platforms, and counseled the young women on all the requirements of a beauty pageant.  She became gifted in finding talents that some of the young ladies did not know they had.  She appreciates the perspective she gained from her time in the Tacoma, Washington pageant and now hopes to convey those skills to a Massachusetts pageant winner.

Nobbin is impeccably poised and gracious, whether interacting with the public or negotiating a sale with her many customers at Chic to Chic, an upscale consignment shop in Mansfield moving to Foxborough in January. She is passionate about developing  young women and truly and sincerely wishes to turn life into something bigger and better for them.  As a matter of fact, the motto of the pageant to be held in April is: “Inspire to Become an Inspiration.”

Nobbin holds a degree from the University of Washington in Social Services and uses her education and skills to relate to all of the contestants.  According to her, she is a “hands-on” sponsor and promises that all chosen contestants will be “fully equipped and prepared for the pageant.”  She loves to develop young women to their potential and likens it to “planting a seed.”

Patch asked what the pageant judges would be looking for in a contestant.  She answered: “integrity, character, determination and someone who is passionate about becoming a leader inside and outside the community.”  Additionally, Patch inquired where she saw the pageant going in the future.

“I would love to see it as a number one scholarship foundation for young ladies to achieve their dreams.”

Recruitment begins in early November.  The pageant will provide a $2,500 scholarship for the winner of the Miss Foxboro crown.  First runner-up will receive $500, 2nd place will receive $250 and third place will receive $150. The winner of the pageant will have an opportunity to compete in the Miss Massachusetts competition later in the year.

Currently, there are six board members voluntarily serving on the Miss Foxboro Board of Directors., although Seretha is looking to expand it.  If you would like to serve on the board, sponsor the pageant or have any questions about the pageant including how to obtain an application, please visit their website at:  MissFoxboro.com, or e-mail at:  MissFoxboro@gmail.com or by telephone:  774.284.4033.

She appreciates the perspective she gained from her short stance in the pageant and now hopes to transcend

“I read once that when you think you are beautiful, you will be beautiful.  It’s all in your mind.”  That’s what it’s about for me,” she adds.  Being committed to my beliefs and serving with love.  When you are good to somebody, they will be good to you.  It always works both ways, I think.”
