Foxboro Never Forgets September 11 Receives Award

Morse and Beggs Monument Co. in North Attleboro, won the Best Public/Civic Monument and Biondon Bronze Bert Gast Memorial awards in Monument Builders of North America’s (MBNA) 2012 Design Contest at its recent Joint Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the California Monument Association (CMA) and the Pacific Northwest Monument Builders Association (PNMBA) held Feb. 24-26, at the Bahia Resort and Hotel in San Diego, Cal.

In March of 2010, Morse and Beggs Monument Co. was awarded the design work and the supplying of all materials for the "Foxboro Never Forgets, September 11 Memorial” in Foxboro. 

This began an 18 -month project that brought together a community which raised all of the funds and donated countless hours of volunteer service to complete this memorial that was dedicated on the tenth year anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.

The design features over 500 square feet of granite paving and stone work weighing over 24 tons.  Over 90 carved and cut pieces of Barre and Stanstead granite were used for the two plazas, three pedestals and three benches. 

The pedestals feature three bronze plaques describing what happened with each attack and the three benches are inscribed with the location and time of each attack. 

On the upper plaza, there are 8–10" bronze medallions representing the branches of the military, New York Fire, Police and Port Authority.

Directly in front of the two towers is a piece of steel recovered from the wreckage of the World Trade Center.  The most prominent features of the Memorial are the twin towers that are 2 foot by 2 foot wide, over 7 feet tall, and have four distinct finishes. 

The granite is Virginia Mist and the finishes represent the falling towers. The top portion is polished showing the towers beauty. 

The finish changes from polished to honed, to unpolished and finally to a flamed finish at the bottom quarter to symbolize the total destruction of the towers.
