“A Christmas Carol” in Foxborough Features Talented Young Actor

Ethan Gekow of Sharon, Massachusetts performs in "A Christmas Carol" at the Orpheum Theater in Foxborough.

Charles Dickens once said, "Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do it well; whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself completely; in great aims and in small I have always thoroughly been in earnest."

This quote pertains to Ethan Gekow of Sharon, Massachusetts.  Gekow, nine years old has been acting since the third grade.  His first role was a featured lost boy in "Peter Pan" and then subsequently followed as Clem Clam in "Little Mermaid", Benjamin in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", and Graspo in "Beauty and the Beast". His latest role is playing Ebeneezer - age 8 and Old Joe in "A Christmas Carol," at the Orpheum Theater in Foxborough.

The presentation of “A Christmas Carol”  produced by The Un-Common Theatre Company and Bay Colony Productions is an original adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic and has met with outstanding appraise, playing to a full house in Foxboro since Dec. 2.  Directed and choreographed by Michael Hammond with musical and orchestra directed by Paula Bishop, the musical has been something that Gekow has looked forward to for a very long time.

"I took a drama class in third grade, but I didn't love it. Then I joined Uncommon and I realized how grand my passion for theater was," he said. "I've made a lot of good friends at Uncommon Theater. It's a great theater company and I'd like to continue to do shows with them for the rest of my life.”

Gekow has his schedule down pat as he balances school, hobbies, acting, and family and social life.

"When I come home from school I do my homework, then I go to rehearsal, art class or sewing class depending on the day. I also volunteer at my old elementary school once a week and I'm on the school yearbook committee," noted. "I have dinner with my family, sometimes we read or play games before I go to bed. It's hard to balance my school work with all my other activities. Sometimes I go to bed late and I'm tired the next day. But I work very hard and I manage to get very good grades and do everything I love.”

Gekow, the youngest son of Smadar and Gary Gekow, has two older brothers, Zachary and Alex.  The look of pride was visible on this close-knit families’ faces the night of the musical as Ethan played his part to perfection.  

“I hope to finish design school, become a famous fashion designer and open a design studio called "ME fashions" with my friend, Maddy,” said Ethan on his future.

With his parents as his inspiration and his hero of design, Michael Kors, this talented young performer will undoubtedly be successful in theater, design, or truly, whatever he pursues.
