Week in Review: Parking Ban, Library Flood, NASA Astronaut Visits Town and More

The town of Foxborough is one step closer to enforcing a parking ban in residential areas during Gillette Stadium events as part of a parking bylaw that passed Town Meeting in May.

The town received the necessary approval from Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Office last week to move forward with its parking bylaw during Gillette Stadium events that exceed crowds of 15,000.

A Foxborough man was one of five men arraigned Friday in Boston Municipal Court on charges that the men each solicited sex from Boston Police officers, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said in a press release.

Reynold Levau, 44, of Foxborough, was arrested Thursday by the Human Trafficking Division of The Boston Police Department’s Family Justice Unit and charged with enticement of a child for the purposes of sex for a fee, according to the press release.

Massachusetts State Police have identified the man who was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital Thursday following an .

“The driver of the northbound 2001 Mack 600 tractor-trailer, who received an electrical shock after his truck struck sagging power lines on Route 95 in Attleboro, is Joseph O. Irorere, 45, of Brockton,” said David Procopio, spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police, in a press release Friday morning. “The most recent information State Police Media Relations has received is that he remains at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.”

NASA Commander and astronaut Chris Cassidy has logged more than 375 hours in space but on Thursday he took some time on Planet Earth to share his unique experience with children in Foxborough.

Cassidy, along with members of the Train Like an Astronaut fitness team, visited The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon for nearly three hours for children to participate in the unique fitness program.

Gov. Deval Patrick called the $1.5 billion transportation bond bill he signed last Thursday what the state needs to strengthen its economy and "quality of life for the long term.”

The bill has set aside funds to upgrade signalization of intersections in Foxborough. The specific earmark includes: 

• Not less than $750,000 for the signalization of the intersections of Route 140 (Commercial Boulevard) and the northern end of Central Street in Foxborough.

The reputations of Chris Spinazzola and Marjorie Clapprood as outstanding business owners in Foxborough have preceded them despite an ongoing financial dispute that forced a change in ownership at this past June.

“The partners in business and in life,” as Clapprood says, are the former owners of the Route 1 function hall in Foxborough and attended last week’s public hearing for Christina’s liquor license transfer at the Foxborough Board of Selectmen meeting. The transfer involved MJ Holding Corporation, which Spinazzola and Clapprood are principle owners of to D&N Corporations and the property’s landlord, Nicholas Panagopolous.

“We have reputations,” said Spinazzola. “We would like to be in this business somewhere down the road … it may not ever be in Foxborough, frankly, and it’s going to take us a long time to recover from this financially. … “We are not here to hurt anybody. We are here to protect our names and reputations as well.”

And that’s exactly what they have done in the six weeks following the change in ownership at Christina’s.

Wednesday morning's downpour caused flooding throughout Foxborough, including the temporary Boyden Library quarters at Chestnut Green forcing the library to operate under "partial services."

"The water entered through the back stairway exit of the building during [Wednesday] morning's downpour," Margi Rossetti, children’s librarian said. "Luckily materials were not damaged, but staff arrived to thoroughly soaked carpets and pools of standing water in the children's area."

The library was still recovering Thursday and could not open its children’s department or adult materials.

Last Tuesday, we shared a in Patriot Place and by Friday, the exterior had been nearly completed.

Construction workers have added signage and red canopies to the exterior and have made significant progress on the interior, which can be seen through the storefront windows of the neighborhood grocery store.

Trader Joe’s is currently hiring at the North Marketplace of Patriot Place and officially opens for business on Sept. 7.
