Selectmen Dissolve Town’s Negotiating Committee with Kraft Group

Negotiations between the town of Foxborough and the Kraft Group regarding future development at Patriot Place have been delayed again following Tuesday’s vote by the Board of Selectmen to dissolve the town’s negotiating committee.

Foxborough Town Counsel Richard Gelerman advised the board to dissolve the committee, which was appointed by selectmen in September, because it was subject to Open Meeting Law.

“Upon direction of Attorney Gelerman, the board rescinded its vote that created the committee with the four people – Town Manager, two selectmen and Town Counsel – and a fifth person being special counsel due to potential Open Meeting Law issues,” said Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis.

Kraft Group Not Revisiting Plans for a Casino in Foxborough; Dismisses ‘False’ Reports

The Kraft Group refuted reports in Thursday's Foxboro Reporter and Sun Chronicle saying the company may be looking to revisit plans for a casino if proposed zoning changes are approved by the town's voters.

Foxborough Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing From Norwood Construction Site

Norwood Police arrested a Foxborough man early Thursday morning for larceny and drug possession after a Norwood resident allegedly saw him take items out of a neighboring house.

Lawrence Parnell, 38, of Foxborough, was charged with larceny from a building, entering a dwelling without breaking to commit a felony, and possession of a Class B Substance, Cocaine.

Selectmen Suspend Fusion 5's Liquor License 3 Days Following Multiple Violations

Fusion 5 will serve a three-day liquor license suspension from Nov. 12-14 as a result of selling alcohol to an intoxicated person and twice serving alcohol after the 1 a.m. closing hour, according to Special Town Counsel Louis Cassis.

Mustard Seeds Antiques on Central Street to Close at End of October

Three years ago, lifelong Foxborough resident Sandy Ivatts opened a small business on Central Street because she loved antiques and thought she could bring something unique to the downtown.

“I wanted to see a different type of a shop as opposed to the typical businesses in the area,” said Ivatts.

So Ivatts opened Mustard Seeds Antiques at 4A Central St. to bring her passion to life in a quaint downtown shop filled with antiques, reproductions, candles and gifts.

Business was good in the beginning.

“I read in the Bible if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can move mountains and that’s where [the shop’s name] came from,” Ivatts said. … “In the first two years I did fabulous but in this last year it’s been tough.”

The tough year of business has been devastating to Ivatts, who will be closing her three-year-old shop at the end of October.

Foxborough Selectmen to Issue Restaurant Liquor License to Asian Ginger

Asian Ginger will now be allowed to serve wine and beer with meals at its 70 Central St. establishment after Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen approved the business’ request for a wine and malt restaurant license.

The license, which was approved by a 4-0 vote, will be issued to Asian Ginger on the following condition:

• Successful query check
• Current floor plan remain the same

Selectman Virginia Coppola recused herself from Tuesday’s public hearing because she owns property that abuts the Central Street restaurant.

Foxborough School Committee Clarifies Position on Turf Field Project

The Foxborough School Committee voted unanimously Monday to amend the Oct. 1 meeting minutes to more accurately reflect its position on the Turf’s Up field project.

“I know the Turf’s Up field project has gotten a lot of press and interest lately and I just want to make sure we reflect accurately the discussion we had at our last meeting,” said school committee member Bruce Gardner. “The comment in the minutes is that I moved and Martha [Slattery] seconded that we work in support of Turf’s Up field project and support funding the project on a town warrant. The word I’m not sure I remember is funding. I wonder if it is better stated that we would support putting forth the project on town warrant.”

Gillette Stadium to Host MIAA Super Bowls for Sixth Consecutive Year

For the sixth consecutive year, 12 Eastern Massachusetts high school football teams will be playing for Super Bowl championships inside Gillette Stadium.

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen have unanimously approved NPS LLC’s Gillette Stadium license application to host the 2012 MIAA High School Super Bowls on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The event, according to Gillette Stadium representative Phil Buttafuoco, will begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude approximately at 9 p.m. There will be six football games played throughout the day in the stadium with 20-minute breaks between each game.
