The Foxborough High School football team had a lot going against them heading into Friday night's game with Attleboro.

The Warriors were coming off a 20-0 loss to unbeaten Stoughton High School, playing without starting quarterback Mike Slaby and facing a team they had never beaten.

But these Warriors proved to be resilient once again Friday night in a 17-14 victory over the Blue Bombardiers.

"This is a great group of kids," said Foxborough head coach Jack Martinelli. "It’s a senior-oriented team ... the kids rose to the occasion and I’m happy about the win."

Nearly 16 months ago, Foxborough resident and United States Marine Corps veteran, Andres Burgos, was in a hospital healing and beginning his rehabilitation process from a devastating hit-and-run accident that took his lower right leg.

This, however, doesn’t stop him from trying to keep living. Every morning he gets up and goes to work at Motorcycles of Manchester South in Foxborough. Over the past year, he has attended various events hosted by Veteran Affairs in an attempt to reclaim his life and not allow the disability to dictate what he can or cannot do.

Burgos visited Fenway Park in August to take part in a CVS Caremark event that invited 12 disabled military veterans to take part in batting practice,  tour the ballpark and attend that night's Red Sox game.

Most recently, the VA medical staff out of Boston invited Burgos to participate in the 2012 fifth Annual National Summer Sports Clinic and the Foxborough resident didn’t even hesitate to get involved.

Burgos traveled with his mother, who was acting as his caretaker for the events, to San Diego, Calif. from Sept. 16-22 to participate in the NVSSC.

While in San Diego, Burgos learned to surf, climbed a rock wall, and went sailing for the first time ever.

Burgos, who is now back at Foxborough, said he plans to continue with the momentum that the VA adaptive sports programs have given him and would like to begin training to become a Paralympic athlete.

The Foxborough resident has begun doing research into schools which may, through scholarships and sports programs, provide the platform he needs.

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis has lived in Foxborough for 11 years and for as long as he can remember; sewer has been an issue in town.

“I’ve spent a lot of time going to [Foxborough’s] Master Plan meetings and the underlining charge is sewer,” DeVellis said. “It has been that way for as long as I can remember. I think we are at the crossroads now. If we are going to get the sewer, it seems like the planning board, the selectmen, the zoning board and the town government are all aligned to get this done one way or the other.”

DeVellis believes sewer is the single most important issue the town is currently facing because without it there is no future growth in downtown Foxborough.

Voters at Foxborough’s Town Meeting this fall are likely to be asked to approve funding of roughly $500,000 to help build a turf field complex for the community and OK a funding plan for construction of a new Town Hall.

But where’s the money coming from?

A $1 million surplus from Foxborough High School’s renovation project had been linked to partially funding either the new Town Hall or the turf field project, or both, but Foxborough’s Finance Director Randy Scollins told selectmen last week the surplus cannot be used on the turf field project because the funds can only be used for renovation projects.

Patch Q&A: DeVellis Undecided About Running for Reelection; Shares Why He Became a Selectman

James DeVellis married into Foxborough long before he moved to town 11 years ago.

His wife, Nicole (Morini), grew up in town and their three children are currently in the Foxborough Public Schools.

“Wife grew up in Foxborough,” DeVellis said. “For some reason, with her graduating class, nobody leaves [town]. … We are here to stay.”

DeVellis said the public schools, friends and neighbors are a few reasons why he really likes the town.

DeVellis recently sat down with Foxborough Patch at Loewen's Deli on Bird Street for a Q&A session. We asked about his involvement in town government – he currently chairs the Board of Selectmen – and what he does outside of Town Hall. Here’s what he had to say

Foxborough to Help Residents Prepare for Future Emergencies

Foxborough will be better prepared for the town’s next emergency thanks to a new handbook created by town officials.

Taking lessons learned from last year’s power outages, the town created an Emergency Preparedness Handbook for residents.

“The town has taken some great steps, learned from the lessons [of last year’s storms],” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis.

Town Manager Kevin Paicos said the handbook will be reproduced into a book and mass distributed to residents and is really full of great information about what sort of things the town needs to do to prepare.
