Selectmen Do Not Recommend Postponing Halloween [POLL]

Selectmen make decision based on lessons learned from last year and safety concerns.

The Foxborough Board of Selectmen are not recommending an alternate date for Halloween this year.

Selectmen recommended that on a town wide basis Monday due to the safety concerns of no house, street and traffic lighting, hanging power lines and downed tree limbs and trees. Selectmen said that certain neighborhoods may work together and coordinate it amongst themselves if they feel it is a safe situation; it is up to the parents to make their final choice.

Selectmen also decided to not recommend an alternate Halloween date, as some communities in Mass. are. In a statement sent to Patch, selectmen James DeVellis said, "as we learned from last year it opens up our doors to many other towns coming in and creating undue congestion and a stress that our residents do not need after many days without electricity and relocation and our public safety officials are currently working back to back shifts and the volunteer resources needed to get an alternate date coordinated are currently working hard right now to address the current crisis."
