HESSCO Elder Services will be participating in the national 2011 March for Meals campaign.  HESSCO’s March for Meals event will include the delivery of meals by area elected officials, participation in the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Flavors Gala along with various fundraising activities in the community, according to their press release.

“During these touch economic times, the food and human contact we provide to seniors is needed more than ever,” said Mary Raczka, HESSCO’s Director of Communications and Fund Development said in the press release.

According to their press release, March for Meals is a national campaign during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities.

“Our Meals On Wheels programs are on the front lines every day in the battle against senior hunger,” said MOWAA President and CEO Enid Borden.  “March for Meals is a time when communities can come together to stand with their local Meals On Wheels and support our mission to end senior hunger in America by the year 2020," said Borden in the press release.

Meals On Wheels supporters should take MOWAA’s Pledge online at www.mowaa.org/pledge. By taking this pledge, you are refusing to tolerate senior hunger in the world’s richest nation.
