Editor's note: The following release was submitted by Laura J. Feeney of the Butterfly Landing Family Care at 182 North St., Foxborough.

The children at Butterfly Landing Family Child Care in Foxborough have been busy making Valentine's Day greeting cards for local seniors.

With help from child care provider Laura Feeney, the children who attend her program aging from 13 months through 3.5, made hand-crafted “valentines” for distribution to seniors at the Foxborough Senior Center, as well as those who receive lunch through the Rodman center and Meals on Wheels programs.

The activity, according to Feeney, was a way to foster community outreach while developing some vital early education skills. The children painted, used stickers, dot markers and made some handprint art as well. Feeney, who opened Butterfly Landing in 2011, feels that reaching out to seniors in the community is important.

"A child's artwork is so inspiring," she said. "They are learning about their senses, gaining important fine motor skills, exploring creativity and building a positive sense of self while making these valentines. It is my hope they can bring a little sunshine to the day of area seniors on this Valentine’s Day."
