Foxborough's Real Life 'Love Story'

The Taylor Swift concert at Gillette Stadium turned out to be especially memorable for one Foxborough couple.

While thousands of were enjoying their own fairytale ‘love stories' on the night of June 25 at Gillette Stadium, another real life love story was taking place only minutes away.

If you were to ask Kristian and Rob Edgar of Foxborough if they would have ever imagined arriving at their wedding reception by police escort, cruising by a traffic jam caused by thousands of Taylor Swift fans, they would have said never in a million years. However, that is exactly what happened on the night of their wedding.

The love story, however, of the Edgars began long before the night of June 25. Kristian Smith Edgar met her future husband Rob at Foxborough High School, where they started out as friends. After graduation from Foxborough High in 86’ and 87’ they remained friends in town. Smith Edgar describes herself and her husband as “stereotypical townies.”

Their relationship developed from a friendship to a romance and over one year ago in May they were engaged to be married. They both knew that it would take a year to plan their wedding. They settled on the date of June 25, to allow Smith Edgar, who is schoolteacher, to be finished with the school year. Next came the venue selection. After looking at many local locations, the couple decided that the Renaissance Hotel and Spa at Patriot Place was the perfect spot for their wedding reception.

In both being long-time residents of Foxborough, the thought of a big event at Gillette Stadium on their wedding day loomed in their minds, but after checking the schedule, which showed no major events for June 25, they knew they were in the clear.

However, a phone call to the couple on Thanksgiving changed the pace of their wedding planning to high speed.

“We found out on Thanksgiving that Taylor Swift booked her concert at Gillette on June 25,” said Smith Edgar. “After we found out, everything turned into a rush, the save the dates needed to go out. [We needed our guests to reserve their rooms!]”

With more than 55,000 fans expected to turn out for the Taylor Swift concert, the next hurdle for the Edgars was figuring out how they were going to get to the hotel after the church ceremony in a reasonable amount of time.

Living in such a tight knit community for so many years was a blessing for the couple. It was a true team effort between the Edgars, their long-time Foxborough friends and the police department.

“We never thought we would get a police escort that day, [but when we exited the church, a Foxborough and a Norfolk officer were waiting for us,” said Smith Edgar. “It came down to old town friends and family, calling and helping out.”

The newlywed's party bus beat the concert traffic, making for a grand entrance to their wedding reception that they will never forget.

Ask the Edgars what their favorite part of their wedding day was and they will tell you it was "celebrating with friends and family."

“It was one of best parties we have ever thrown," said Smith Edgar. "We love to throw parties, good food and good music is what it is all about.”
