Community Comes Together to Celebrate Life of 'Mr. Foxborough' James Davin

The town of Foxborough came together on Friday to celebrate the life of longtime resident and father of three, James Davin, who passed away this past October.

Hundreds of well-wishers came by Demetri’s Function Hall on Route 1 Foxborough to remember Davin and help support his family. Foxborugh-based band Thirty6Red provided entertainment for the night as raffles and prizes were handed out to the many in attendance.

Nicole “Nicky” Davin, James' wife, said she was overwhelmed by the amount of support she and her family has received from the community.

“We’re all very appreciative,” she said. “You know I saw the sign when I came in and it said ‘It Takes a Village.” We couldn’t have gotten through this without living here and having this support. We have a great family, they’re not quite here in Foxborough, and anything they couldn’t be here for the town and our friends have been there. We’re very lucky.”

Tens of thousands of dollars have been donated in James' memory to help his family in the wake of his death. James was a Foxborough resident for 15 years and served as general counsel for the Suffolk County Sherriff’s Department.

Brian Ricchiardi, a former housemate of James Davin, was onhand with many of his college housemates.

“We met in college in 1983,” said Ricchiardi. “Jim was one hell of a guy, a very nice guy. … He was an avid sports fan and a big family guy. Just a generally nice human being.”

Said Davin's college housemate Steve McLoughlin: “He never had a bad word to say about anybody. It was 12 guys to a house. Eight of us are here tonight. Most of us will be here.”

Said Davin's college roommate Chris Murphy: “Jim was the first one to the party and last one to leave. He wasn’t as agile as he thought he was, he was not as good a dancer as he thought he was. We used to call him Mr. Rhythm actually.”

James Davin was a father of three and was always coaching his children’s events, such as youth baseball and the Metro West travel basketball team.

“He always took the time to coach his kids,” said Riccahiardi. “Every game, no matter what. He never missed anything and he was a great father.”

Said McLaughlin: “He was Mister Foxborough."

His son, Sean Davin, a sophomore in high school and an avid baseball player, said he was very thankful for the community’s support at Friday's event.

“It really shows how much he was loved,” he said.
