State representative Jay Barrows along with Hero Helpers of America will host “Support Our Troops” day in Mansfield on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at Barrows Insurance Agency at 215 North Main Street
“We’re thrilled that Representative Barrows is supporting this program and helping us introduce ourselves in the Mansfield area,” said co-founder and Foxboro High School graduate Amanda Dickerman.
Hero Helpers of America is seeking help from the surrounding communities, in ways such as volunteering to “Adopt-a-Soldier” by writing letters or donating items for care packages, as well as monetary donations to go towards supplies as well as postage to help send items to soldiers. They intend to wrap up their fall campaign by Veterans Day.
At 11:00 am, there will be a press conference of a donation presentation from Jay Barrows to Hero Helpers of America. The event will be held at where the public is encouraged to come by and make a donation or participate by writing a letter to an area resident serving in the military.
“I’m glad to participate and help get the word out about this terrific organization,” said Representative Jay Barrows. “I hope families will stop by to write a note of thanks and encouragement to these men and women who are away from their own families. We need to support them as they protect us.”
This will be a free, all-ages family-oriented event with
light refreshments. There will be letter
writing stations set up to write letters to troops, collection boxes to leave
donations for care packages, and raffle items from local businesses.
“Rep. Barrows is providing materials for residents to simply drop-in and take a moment to write letters or for children to draw pictures that will be sent to servicemen and women in active duty,” added fellow co-founder and FHS graduate Lauren Eliopoulos.
Some items requested include:
toothbrushes/toothpaste, sunglasses, sunblock, gum, granola bars, playing
cards, socks (black, brown or green), baby/facial wipes, Ramen noodles, eye
drops, and vitamins. For a full list of
