Here's a roundup of events and meetings in Foxborough this week, Jan. 28 to Feb. 3.

The following meetings and events will be held in Foxborough this week:

Monday, Jan. 28:

Foxborough Board of Water & Sewer Commissioners Sewer Rate Hearing, 7:05 p.m., Water Department Office, Town Hall

The Foxborough Board of Water and Sewer Commissioners will discuss the proposed water, reuse water and sewer rate increases before voting on it. The hearing is expected to begin at 7:05 p.m. in the Water Department Office. At 7:45 p.m. the commissioners will meet with the planning board regarding its master plan and sewer district.

Foxborough School Committee, 7 p.m., Foxborough High School Media Center

The Foxborough School Committee will hold a public hearing Monday for the FY14 budget and cast a vote of recommendation at 7:40 p.m. in the Media Center of Foxborough High School. Other agenda items are:

  • Approval of FHS overnight travel to New York for the Charles Mingus Institute
  • Discussion and approval of 2013-14 Capital Improvement Plan
  • Recommendation for Increase in Substitute Nurse Pay Rate
  • First Reading of Policies

Historical Committee, 7 p.m., Memorial Hall

The Foxborough Historical Commission will discuss the Lions Club’s electronic town common sign proposal at Monday’s meeting at Memorial Hall. For more on the Lions Club’s proposal, click here.

TV Turn Off Week at Taylor Elementary School

Taylor Elementary School is participating in TV Turn Off Week in an effort to unplug students from television and electronic entertainment and encourage them to be more active.

Tuesday, Jan. 29:

5th Annual Cake Bake, 6-7:30 p.m., Taylor School Cafeteria

All Foxborough children are welcome to attend Taylor Elementary School’s Cake Bake on Tuesday in the cafeteria.

Children bake and decorate a cake at home and bring it to Taylor at 6 p.m. to be judged by the elementary school’s panel of local cake bakers. Judges will award cakes with winning category ribbons for many categories (tallest cake, most colorful cake, best use of sprinkles and so many more) while the children are entertained by Tad/Mr. DJ with a variety of games and dances. Then ribbon winners will be read and contestant can try their own cakes.  Fun family night for all. $5 to attend. All proceeds benefit the Taylor Family Fund.

 Free SAT Practice Test, 6 p.m., Foxborough High School

A practice SAT test is crucial to ward off those test day jitters and to reveal how you may score on the "real thing. Kaplan Test Prep will provide a proctored SAT practice test and will return student scores individually with personalized, analyzed results. Please bring multiple, sharpened #2 pencils, an approved calculator and a healthy snack for the break.

Wednesday, Jan. 30:

Foxborough Advisory Committee, 7 p.m., Town Hall

Foxborough’s Advisory Committee will review the proposed FY14 budget for the Boyden Library and Foxborough Public Schools.

Foxboro Fit Club, 7 p.m., Taylor Elementary School

Foxboro Fit Club is back now through April. Feeling less than inspired at the gym? Join Foxboro Fit Club for free for an hour each week. You'll sweat to best selling Beach body programs like P90X, Turbo Fire and Insanity.

Thursday, Jan. 31:

Dunkin’ Donuts American Red Cross Blood Drive, 1-6 p.m., Patriot Place Dunkin’ Donuts

The Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant located at 1 Patriot Pl. in Foxborough is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive to help raise awareness about the need for blood. During the month of January, all presenting blood donors in Massachusetts will receive a coupon from Dunkin’ Donuts for a free pound of coffee.  Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. About every two seconds someone in America needs blood, and one donation can help save up to three lives. All current and new donors are encouraged to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment. 

2013 Dog Licenses Due, Town Hall

Thursday is the last day to register for 2013 dog licenses with the town of Foxborough without paying a $20 late fee. Licenses are $12 for male and female dogs and $10 for neutered or spayed dogs.

Elementary School Report Cards Distributed

Foxborough Public Schools will distribute report cards for all elementary schools.

Foxborough High School scholarship packets are due to guidance by 2 p.m.

Foxborough High School Winterfest Concert, 7 p.m., Foxborough High School Auditorium

Foxborough High School will hold a Winterfest concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Friday, Feb. 1:

3rd Quarter Property Taxes Due

Burrell Elementary School Family Dance

The Burrell Elementary School family dance will be held Friday.

Ahern Middle School Report Cards Issued, 2:15 to 2:24 p.m.

Foxborough Public Schools will distribute Ahern Middle School report cards Friday.

Taylor School Family Hoe Down, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Taylor School

The Taylor Elementary School will hold a family hoe down from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Sturdy Memorial Hospital Holding Free Heart Health Fair, 7 a.m., Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro

Sturdy Memorial will hold its annual Heart Health Fair on Friday in Conference Rooms A, B & C and E & F at the hospital. The fair will feature health screenings, general health information, exercise information, samples of heart healthy food and more.

Blood pressure measurements, risk factor assessments, stroke screenings, arterial disease foot screenings (no nylon hosiery or tights), and glucose and cholesterol testing will be offered free of charge. Cholesterol tests require a 12-hour fast. Test results will be mailed. Hospital staff nurses and laboratory technicians will administer the screenings. The fair is being held in conjunction with National Wear Red Day, where pins and refreshments will be available.

Saturday, Feb. 2:

Ahern Middle School Winter Carnival, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual Winter Carnival will be held at Ahern Middle School Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Post 93 American Legion Baseball Sign Ups, noon, 8 Mechanic St.

Post 93 American Legion baseball sign ups will be held for players ages 15-19 living in Sharon, Foxborough and Mansfield on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 8 Mechanic St.
