Around Town: Foxborough Eagle Scout Recognized at Selectmen Meeting, FMF Cheerleaders Seek Donations and More

Here's a brief roundup of Foxborough news and information gathered from Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting

The Foxborough Board of Selectmen took time at Tuesday’s meeting to recognize local Eagle Scout Tim Smith for his accomplishment and thank him for his volunteerism in town.

Smith, a member of Boy Scouts Troop 32, recently achieved the Eagle Scout rank following completion of his project. Smith chose to maintain the burial sites of all veterans at the Rockhill Cemetery in Foxborough to “reflect the respect due to those who served their country,” according to the BOS official citation.

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the hours of time you have spent organizing this endeavor, along with the assistance of Foxborough’s Veterans Agent Michael Johns and other volunteers,” selectman Lorraine Brue read on behalf of the BOS.

“You have honored the memory of all those who have served,” Brue read. “We wish you much success in your future and congratulations on your rank of achievement to Eagle Scout.”

DeVellis Thanks Kraft Group for POW/MIA Dedication at Gillette Stadium

DeVellis publicly thanked New England Patriots CEO Robert Kraft, The Kraft Group and Rolling Thunder for last Friday’s POW/MIA empty seat dedication at Gillette Stadium.

The ceremony marked the first time in history that a professional sports team left a seat permanently unoccupied in recognition of the many soldiers that are POW/MIA.

“It was very well done and very meaningful and I thank you for the unprecedented step that happened in Foxborough,” DeVellis said.

Election Day Runs Smoothly in Foxborough

DeVellis took time to thank Town Clerk Bob Cutler ad his many volunteers who organized and ran the 2012 Presidential Election in Foxborough.

“Often when things go well you don’t hear anything and when things go bad we hear a lot of stuff,” DeVellis said. “We didn’t hear anything over the elections but I wanted to say thank you to the Town Hall staff and especially Bob Cutler, who spent a [tremendous] amount of time. I think he showed up before 5 a.m. and was there until well after midnight. We had a lot of people that came and it went very smoothly.”

Foxboro Midget Football Cheerleaders Seek Donations for Florida Competition

The Foxborough Pop Warner A and C cheer squads competed at Regionals in Springfield last weekend with the FMF A squad placing second and advancing to compete at Disney in December. The cheerleading squad will be holding fundraisers around town to help finance the trip. DeVellis shared some more information for those interested in donating to the FMF Cheerleaders.

“They made it to the big tournament in Florida,” DeVellis said. “It’s a huge feat for them they all worked hard. That’s the good news. The bad news is the airfare and the accommodations they need on short notice. … If you want to find out more about it, check in with FMF football. Send a donation to Box 479 Foxboro Midget Football at the Foxborough Post Office.”
