5 Things: Videogame Maker to Close Foxborough Studio, AdCom Talks DPW Budgets, Fit Club Returns & More

1. Expect a Sunny Tuesday with a High Near 44 in Foxborough

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind 11 to 14 mph.

2. Videogame Maker to Shut Down Foxborough Studio

Majesco Entertainment Company, a provider of video games for the mass market, has closed its social games development studio in Foxborough.

The New Jersey-based video game company has produced games for Kinect for XBOX 360, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii, Facebook and Android just to name a few.

The company recently announced it would be closing its small Foxborough studio this week, according to Boston Globe columnist Scott Kirsner, who reported the studio’s 12 employees received news of the company’s decision last Friday.

Kirsner says the small studio had “developed three different mobile games, including Flea Symphony and Legends of Loot, as well as a Facebook game called Miniputt Park.

The Foxborough studio was created in 2011, according to Kirsner, “when Majesco acquired the assets of Quick Hit, a venture-backed startup that had developed a web-based football game.”

3. Advisory Committee Meets to Discuss DPW Budgets

Foxborough’s Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. in the Andrew Gala Meeting Room of Town Hall to review the following DPW budgets:

  • Water & Sewer Enterprise
  • Street lighting
  • Highway/tree & park
  • Snow & ice
  • Landfill & solid waste engineering
