The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon for northern portions of Connecticut, Rhode Island and the Route 128 and I-95 corridors of eastern Massachusetts. This includes the cities of Hartford, Woonsocket, Boston and Foxborough.

The NWS is reporting a “significant winter storm” is likely to hit the area Monday night into Tuesday.

The storm is expected to deliver a “period of heavy snow followed by sleet,” according to the NWS. Some areas will be hit with mostly freezing rain.

In Foxborough, snow accumulation of 4 to 7 inches is possible, along with a trace of ice. Snowfall will likely begin Monday evening before tapering off Tuesday afternoon with heaviest precipitation late Monday into Tuesday morning. “This will result in treacherous travel conditions later Monday night into at least Tuesday morning,” the NWS said. “Therefore a winter storm watch has been issued to increase public awareness of the likelihood of wintry weather during Monday night into Tuesday.”
