5 Things: Helicopter Landing in Foxborough, Art Show, Spring Farm Festival & More

1. Expect a Sunny Wednesday with a High Near 68

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for sunny, with a high near 68. East wind 3 to 8 mph. Wednesday night: Clear, with a low around 41. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

2. Blue Hills Helicopter to Visit Foxborough High School

Foxborough Schools Superintendent Debra Spinelli told Foxborough Patch that Foxborough High School students have been planning and filming a whole-school Lip Dub video as this year's student video project and have a special scene planned for Wednesday.

“They have finished filming the interior portion,” Spinelli said. “They wanted their ending to be dramatic, in which their camera is lifted from the ground and swoops up into the sky --and they are filming it Wednesday.”

Blue Hills Helicopter Company out of Norwood Airport has donated a helicopter for use in the film Wednesday, according to Spinelli.

“The police and fire departments will arrive around 12:40 p.m. to establish a safe landing site.”

The helicopter is expected to land in Foxborough around 1 p.m. Foxboro Cable Access’ Mike Webber will be boarding the helicopter with the camera, according to Spinelli.

So if you happen to see a low-flying helicopter in the area land at Foxborough High School Monday, don’t be alarmed, it’s part of this creative student project.

3. Foxborough Stop & Shop Supports the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Treat the special women in your life to decadent desserts while also helping fight breast cancer during Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer from May 6 through Mother’s Day on May 12. More than 300 restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, chocolate and ice cream shops, throughout Massachusetts will participate in Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, including Stop & Shop in Foxborough.

Participating establishments have the option to designate all sales of one specific dessert or 50 percent of proceeds from their entire dessert menu to support Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a non-profit breast cancer organization dedicated to making a difference.  Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc. will contribute 80 percent of proceeds to breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer was founded in 2000 by Carol Brownman Sneider in memory of her mother, Eva Brownman, who lost her battle with breast cancer. Since its inception the event has raised more than $650,000 for breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber through the Eva Brownman Research Fund currently under the direction of Eric Winer, MD, director of the Breast Oncology Center and Thompson Senior Investigator in Breast Cancer Research, Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber.

“Breast cancer is an extraordinarily complex disease that, in spite of the many clinical and scientific advances we’ve made in the past decade, will likely take the lives of 40,000 people in the United States this year.  The funds raised by Boston Bakes will enable us to continue our research to better understand both the causes and the many subtypes of breast cancer, which will help us to devise more effective treatments,” said Winer.

4. Burrell Elementary School Art Show

Burrell Elementary School will hold its spring art show from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

5. 2013 Spring Farm Festival at Sheep Pasture will be Fun for the Whole Family

It’s finally spring in New England, and time to enjoy some outdoor family fun on the farm. On Saturday, May 4th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. NRT of Easton is celebrating with its Spring Farm Festival at Sheep Pasture in Easton.

The community is invited to this free family event for live entertainment, farm animal demonstrations, games and food. Visitors will enjoy amazing live wood carving demonstrations by Wayne Demoranville, Chainsaw Carving Artist, and music from the Barn Burners String Band of Easton. Children will love the farm animal demonstration from Sunny Rock 4-H Club, poultry display by Group One Poultry, and outdoor old-fashioned games by Grange 196. Also on exhibit will be other local organizations and local crafters selling handmade items.

In addition, tickets will be on sale from 10 a.m. to noon for visitors to take a chance to win a cash prize at  “Cow Bingo” with NRT’s very own Simba the Cow.

The 2013 Spring Farm Festival will be held rain or shine, with free parking at NRT’s 261 Main St. entrance. Special thanks to our event sponsors, Roche Bros, Lloyd Animal Medical Center, Tedeschi Food Shops, Market Basket, and Easton Pool & Spa. Admission and parking to this event are free for all ages. Some activities may require a small fee. Leashed dogs are welcome the day of the event.
