5 Things: FRCS Open House, Fashion Show, Insurance Advisory Committee & More

Here's five things you need to know in Foxborough for today, Jan. 24.

1. A Cold Thursday Expected in Foxborough

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for sunny, with a high near 19. Wind chill values as low as -8. Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Thursday night: Clear, with a low around 3. Wind chill values as low as -5. West wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

2. Foxborough Regional Charter School to Hold Open House

Foxborough Regional Charter School is holding a public open house at 6:30 p.m. This free event is offered for the convenience of families, an evening that is an overview of FRCS’ enrollment process, curriculum, student leadership and community service programs and a great opportunity to meet the staff and students.

The event begins promptly at 6:30 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m.  Join FRCS for a formal presentation by board members, the executive director, the director of teaching and learning & the director of students and families. Immediately following the presentation, families will have the opportunity to tour the school, visit classrooms and meet with teachers and Instructional Leaders in FRCS Academic Resource Center to discuss curriculum.

A special introduction for Kindergarten families also follows the formal presentation. Applications will be available and accepted at this event. Click here to RSVP.

3. Fanautical’s ‘Catch Our Line’ for Dana Farber Fashion Show

Fanautical at Patriot Place will be holding its “Catch Our Line” for Dana Farber Fashion Show fundraiser Thursday at 7 p.m. Twenty percent of proceeds from this Fashion Show will be donated to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Fanautical sells "moorchandise" for the irreverent social creature willing to forgo their comfort zone. The male and female clothing online retailer has just opened its first physical store. It is best known for its merchandise that has been renamed, such as F-shirts, so not-bored board shorts, virtually sleeveless, keep warm shirts and hoodies, men's yacht shirts, toddler and youth F-shirts. Fanautical also sells a recipe book on its online store. 

4. Patriot Place Events:

  • Second Round of 2013 Pond Hockey Tournament: Third Annual Pond Hockey Tournament at Winter Skate at Patriot Place – Foxboro Presented by Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare is taking place from now thru Jan. 26 with multiple competitive divisions.
    The tournament takes place the week between the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl XLVII on Patriot Place’s Outdoor Refrigerated Rink. Weeknight games are played under the lights. Each team can roster up to 10 players. The league is a no-check men’s tournament with four players on the ice at one time. Games consist of two 15-minute halves. All teams play a minimum of three games.
  • 6 p.m. - Fun and Games with 5Wits: Join 5Wits at 6 p.m. for a night of fun and games. Try some of 5Wits’ favorite board and card games and have a chance to take them home for a steal.

5. Insurance Advisory Committee to Meet Thursday at Town Hall

The Foxborough Insurance Advisory Committee will meet the Andrew Gala Meeting Room of Town Hall at 3 p.m. to present an overview the municipal healthcare reform and how it will impact Foxborough municipal employees followed by a Q&A session.
