5. YMCA Youth Triathlon to be Held Sunday in Franklin

On Sunday, the Hockomock Area YMCA will host its annual Healthy Futures Youth Triathlon at its Bernon Family Branch in Franklin. Youth ages 3–13 are encouraged to Give it a Tri and participate in his or her age appropriate division. This is an opportunity for youth to be introduced to a fun lifelong activity that builds confidence, determination and a love for physical activity.

The Healthy Futures Initiative, launched in 2006, was developed as a collective community response to promote physical activity and healthy eating. Since that time the YMCA has focused on improving its capacity to identify and enact strategies, build upon the principals of intervention, prevention, and sustainable change.

The YMCA's annual triathlon is a perfect way to engage youth and families in physical activity and healthy eating. Perfect for both beginner and experienced youth athletes, the Y provides a safe fun activity to inspire and support youth. To be developmental appropriate, the Y has divided the triathlon into four age divisions to ensure that it is challenging athletes while setting them up for success.
