5 Things for the Weekend: Christmas Concert, Ahern Drama Club Performance, Toys for Tots and More

Here's what's happening in Foxborough this weekend, Dec. 8-9.

1. Expect a Rainy Weekend in Foxborough

Saturday’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for showers, mainly before 1 p.m. Patchy fog. High near 44. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Saturday night: A slight chance of showers before 9 p.m. Patchy fog before 11 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Sunday night: Showers likely, mainly after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 36. East wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

2. Ahern Middle School Drama Club Presents ‘Run for the Money’

The Ahern Middle School Drama Club will perform “Run for the Money” Saturday at 4 p.m. in the middle school auditorium.

3. Toys for Tots and Food Drive at RE/Max

Be a Christmas elf and help Foxborough’s RE/MAX help the less fortunate families in our local area by stopping by with an unwrapped toy and/or non-perishable food item at the real estate agency’s 30 Mechanic St. location. The drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • (Saturday) - Santa's Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops: Enjoy a free photo with Santa, games crafts and more at Santa’s Wonderland.
  • (Saturday) - Help the Foxborough Food Pantry at Old Navy: Old Navy will be collecting non-perishable food items to benefit the Foxborough Food Pantry from Dec. 1-19. Help those in need this holiday season and make a donation today.
  • (Saturday) - Meet Santa at the Kidtoons Presentation: Santa will be joining Showcase Cinema de Lux for the last Kidtoons presentation featuring “Barbie – The Princess and The Popstar!   • (Saturday) 10 a.m. - Holiday Classics at Showcase Cinemas De Lux: Enjoy free admission to a classic holiday movie with a donation of non-perishable food items to benefit a local food pantry. This week's classic holiday film: A Christmas Story.

  • (Saturday) 4 to 6 p.m. - Holiday Carolers: Join Patriot Place as it gets into the spirit of the season with roaming carolers.
  • (Saturday) 10 a.m. - Holiday Classics at Showcase Cinemas De Lux: Enjoy free admission to a classic holiday movie with a donation of non-perishable food items to benefit a local food pantry. This week's classic holiday film: White Christmas.
  • (Saturday) 7 p.m. - Men Without Hats at Showcase Live: Men Without Hats have been creating iconic and irresistible pop music for three decades and have soared back with the release of their latest album, Love in the Age of War, to be released this May.
  • (Saturday) 8 p.m. - American RUSH Tribute Lotus Land at Showcase Live: With an unparallel performance, The American RUSH Tribute Lotus Land brings the force of live Rush to life on stage.
  • (Saturday) 9:30 p.m. - Not in Kansas at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill: In 2012, Not in Kansas was named Best Local Country Band and labeled “New England’s favorite country cover band.”  Their style is all their own by offering country music with a rock edge.

5. Foxborough Concert to Celebrate Joy of Christmas at St. Mary’s Church

The Joy of Christmas will be celebrated in concert at St. Mary’s Church in Foxborough on Sunday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 6:30 p.m. The Foxborough High School A Cappella Choir and the Serenading Seniors will be sharing their musical gifts as well as groups from many churches, including Bethany Congregational Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Four Square Gospel Church and St. Mary’s Church. In addition to the choral groups, many individual soloists will also perform during the two-hour celebration following which everyone will be invited to join in the singing of four Christmas Carols. The program will conclude with everyone joining their voices in a timely appeal to all the world as they sing “Let There be Peace on Earth.” The concert is free and open to the public. There is ample parking at the rear of the church on Carpenter Street and in the adjacent lot. Refreshments will be served in the church vestry following the program. Guests who are able are encouraged to bring donations for the Foxborough Discretionary Fund food pantry, which reaches out to those a bit down on their luck throughout the year. The most needed items are brownie mixes, toilet tissue, bottled juice (a very popular item for families with young children), jelly, beef soups, shampoo, toothpaste, child-friendly cereal and canned corn. Other non-perishable food items are also welcome.
