5 Things for the Weekend: Car Wash, Boxing, Tax Free Weekend and More

Find out what's happening in Foxborough this weekend, Aug. 11-12.

1. Expect an Overcast and Rainy Weekend in Foxborough

This weekend’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton,  calls for cloudy with scattered showers Saturday morning ... then showers likely with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Patchy fog in the morning. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall in the afternoon. Humid with highs in the lower 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent. Saturday Night: Cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog. Humid with lows in the upper 60s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent. Sunday: Partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog. Humid with highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 40 percent. Sunday Night: Mostly clear. Patchy fog. Humid with lows in the mid 60s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph ... becoming west after midnight.

2. Pro Boxing Match Set for Sunday at Gillette Stadium

Following the Revolution’s 7 p.m. game against the Montreal Impact, Framingham native “Irish” Danny O’Connor will headline a live professional boxing card at the stadium. The boxing event will commence after the final whistle of the Revolution match at approximately 9 p.m.

At 17-1, O’Connor is on the brink of stardom. He is a former two-time national amateur champion and was an alternate for the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team in 2008. Now managed by Dropkick Murphys front man Ken Casey, O’Connor is building a strong home fan base with his exciting fighting style. He sold out Boston’s House of Blues in May.

“I'm honored and proud to be able to fight in front of the New England Revolution supporters. They are the epitome of loyal fans and I'm proud to be part of the Revs family," said O’Connor.

Also appearing on the three-bout card will be Boston Police officer and former New England Golden Gloves champ Billy Traft, who will face Hull’s mixed martial arts standout John Downey in Traft’s second pro fight

3. Foxborough High School Cheerleading Car Wash at Town Hall

The Foxborough High School cheerleaders will hold a car wash on Saturday, Aug. 11 (rain date is Aug. 12) at the Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are accepted to support the team.

4. Patriot Place Events:

  • 11 a.m. (Saturday) - Summer Sensation 2012 - Backyard Games at Patriot Place: There is nothing like a little friendly competition at Patriot Place. Grab the kids and take part in the super sized backyard games: Checkers, Chess, Block Stack, Ladder Ball, Bean Bag Toss.
  • 11 a.m. (Saturday) - Summer Sensation 2012 - Henry the Juggler: Henry the juggler is considered armed (and legged) and dangerous. He is known to cause outbursts of laughter with his ability to juggle and toss rings, clubs and other apparatus of his trade.
  • 7:30 p.m. (Saturday) - Satisfaction at Showcase Live: The International Rolling Stones Show is the international touring tribute production dedicated to the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band.
  • 9:30 p.m. (Saturday) - Tom Dixon at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill: With a unique combination of smooth country vocals and an explosive live performance, The Tom Dixon Band has given birth to a new way of delivering that sweet country sound.
  • 3 p.m. (Sunday) - Tastings Wine Bar & Bistro - Summer BBQ Series: Chef Lacy will be putting together a special selection of Small Plates that are prepared patio side on the new commercial grade grill.
  • 4 p.m. (Sunday) - Sounds of Summer presented by Patch.com: Heads Up is entertaining, energetic, solid musicianship & a concert sound playing all familiar Top 40, Rock & Dance Covers.
  • 5 p.m. (Sunday) – The New England Patriots Training Camp: The New England Patriots return to practice on the fields behind Gillette Stadium from 5 to 7 p.m. Fans are welcomed to attend the session and watch their favorite players run through drills.
  • 6 p.m. (Sunday) - Sounds of Summer presented by Patch.com: Split Risk is a 4 piece group of musicians who play for the love of the music. They’ve been playing limited engagements in and around the Boston area for the past year.
  • 7 p.m. (Sunday) - New England Revolution vs. Montreal Impact: Come see the New England Revolution take on Montreal Impact at Gillette Stadium.

5. Are You Celebrating Tax-Free Weekend?

Residents of Massachusetts once again will have the chance this weekend to spend to their heart's content without worrying about the normal 6.25 percent sales tax. 

The tax-free holiday will run from Saturday, Aug. 11 to Sunday, Aug. 12, and will allow customers of most retail outlets the chance to stock up on items without the added sales tax. Excluded from the tax holiday are restaurant meals, cars, motorboats, tobacco and any item that costs more than $2,500.
