3. Dunkin Donuts Eyes ‘Best Coffee in America’ Trademark

Dunkin Donuts is looking to have the best coffee in America. But it's not just an ideal for the coffee chain.

Dunkin Donuts has applied for the actual trademark of "Best Coffee in America" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, according to Boston.com, which reported that the company has sought more than 100 trademarks for specific products like "Coffee Coolatta".

However, Starbucks continues to remain the top fast-food coffee spot, according to Boston.com, while McDonald's holds second-place for the destination coffee drinkers prefer most.

Companies that try to register trademarks in common phrases or images commonly state that they have acquired secondary meanings associated with the product or service the company sells, according to The Huffington Post.
