5 Things for Aug. 8: Puppet Show Reminder, Legends Lunch, Pats Practice and More

1. More Sun in the Forecast for Wednesday with a High Near 85

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Light southwest wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Wednesday night: Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

2. Space Still Open for Boyden Library’s ‘Father Goose Tales’ by Jim Napolitano

The Boyden Library Children's Department will present "Father Goose Tales" by Jim Napolitano of Nappy's Puppets on Thursday, Aug. 9 at the Foxboro Recreation Building at 68 Mill St. at 2 p.m.  Space is still available. Families with children ages 3 and older can call the Children's Desk at 508-543-1246 to sign up. Don't miss this spectacular shadow puppet performance by one of the most popular performers in Massachusetts libraries. Sponsored by the Friends of the Boyden Library in cooperation with the Foxboro Recreation Department.

3. Foxboro Jaycees General Membership Meeting

The Foxboro Jaycees are a dynamic, enthusiastic volunteer organization dedicated to enhancing quality of life through community development projects and social events for chapter members. The Jaycees make the community better and have a lot of fun along the way.

Anyone over 18 is welcome to stop by and visit the Jaycees at their monthly membership meetings, on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the South Foxboro Community Center to learn more.

4. Events:

• 10 a.m. – New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints Joint Practice: For Patriots fans who want to get closer to the action or are looking for an inexpensive way to entertain the kids, Patriots Training Camp offers just the ticket. Watch as the Patriots and Saints square off on the practice field as they prepare for Thursday’s preseason game at Gillette Stadium.
• 10 a.m. - Showcase Cinema de Lux Bookworm Wednesdays: Join Showcase Cinemas for the last Bookworm Wednesdays of summer. The event is part of Showcase Cinemas’ summer literacy program. Each Wednesday until Aug. 8, children who present a book report will receive free admission to a special film at 10 a.m.
• 11 a.m. - Summer Sensation 2012 - Face Painting: Visit Old Navy where the face painters will make you look cool.
• Noon - The Legends Lunch at Davio's: Join 98.5 The Sports Hub at Davio’s for The Legends Lunch – an event featuring a group of Boston greats, all former New England Patriots, to have lunch with you and share favorite moments and experiences of playing in Boston. You will have the opportunity to ask questions of you’re own.  This panel discussion will feature Patriots Legends; Andre Tippett, Gino Cappelletti and Joe Andruzzi Co-Host of 98.5's mid-day show, Scott Zolak, will Emcee the event. A delicious lunch is included in the ticket price of $40 per person, and guests are encouraged to visit training camp prior to the panel discussion. • 7 to 10 p.m. - Live Music at Tastings Wine Bar & Bistro: Welcome Gay Barboza to Tastings' Music Series.
• 9:30 p.m. - Digger Dawg at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill: This band offers a high-energy show of the ultimate in country, rock and blues. Digger Dawg was honored with a tour overseas to the troops in 2008 in Kuwait and Iraq.

5. Bill Granting Public Access to Private Restrooms Signed into Law

A bill which allows (like Crohn's disease or colitis) was signed into law by Gov. Deval Patrick last week.

The bill was originally filed by State Representative Lou Kafka (D-Stoughton) on behalf of a teenage constituent from nearby Sharon.

“I’m proud of the fact that this bill will provide peace of mind to people suffering from diseases on the colitis spectrum, that they will be able to shop without fear of a publicly embarrassing situation,” Kafka said in a release.

The law applies to businesses with three or more employees. People wishing to use the private, employee-only restrooms will need a doctor's note, the Associated Press reports.

With the Governor signing the bill, Massachusetts joins 12 other states with similar laws, according to a press release. The release states that roughly 30,000 Massachusetts residents suffer from Crohn’s or Colitis with at least 10 percent of those being under the age of 18.
