5 Things for Aug. 27: Foxborough High Walkthrough, Free Help for Homeowners, Republican National Convention and More

1. NWS Predicts a Sunny Monday in Foxborough with a High of 82

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 82. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Monday night: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Patchy fog after 11 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

2. Foxborough School Committee Meets Monday

It’s a busy Monday for the Foxborough School Committee with a full agenda beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a walkthrough of Foxborough High School with Schools Business Administrator Bill Yukna. The walkthrough begins in FHS’ Media Center. Click here to view the rest of the agenda.

3. Obama Administration and HOPE NOW to Host Free Help for Homeowners Community Event at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday 

A free Help for Homeowners community event, sponsored by the Obama Administration’s Making Home Affordable Program and the HOPE NOW Alliance, will be held at for all homeowners who may be at risk of foreclosure. The event is free, open to the public, and provides a chance for homeowners to meet face-to-face with their mortgage company and a HUD-approved counseling agency to work on a solution to help them stay in their home.

Many of the largest mortgage companies are scheduled to be in attendance including Bank of America, Carrington, Chase, Citi Mortgage, GMAC Mortgage, Homeward Residential (formerly American Home Mortgage Servicing, Inc.), HSBC, NationStar, Ocwen, OneWest, PNC, Rockland Trust, Select Portfolio Servicing, Seterus, US Bank and Wells Fargo.

Additionally, there will be several non-profit housing counselors from local organizations and representatives from other mortgage market participants. The event begins at 1 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. at Gillette Stadium’s Putnam Club West.

5. Republican National Convention in Florida Delayed by ‘Isaac’

AccuWeather.com reports as delegates and the media gather for the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 27-30, a passing visitor, "Isaac," will have a little say.

Isaac is forecast to reach the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Monday, coinciding with the scheduled start of the Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Convention will convene on Monday morning, with Foxborough native Angela Davis in attendance as an elected alternate delegate serving Mitt Romney for RNC. Also traveling to Florida for the RNC are Foxborough's State Rep. Jay Barrows and State Rep. Betty Poirier. After convening Monday morning, the RNC will immediately be postponed until Tuesday afternoon. The decision was made to protect people attending the event as Isaac impacts parts of Florida early this week.

This track will be a glancing blow to the Tampa area. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, urban flooding and above-normal tides will affect the Florida west coast as well as a significant portion of the peninsula as Isaac approaches and passes by to the west over the Gulf. Such a track will also bring the potential for a few tornadoes.

AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center meteorologists anticipate the storm reaching the Gulf of Mexico by Monday. Upon entering the Gulf, a gradual turn more to the north is anticipated.
