5 Things for Aug. 20: A Sunday Power Outage, High School Football Returns, Meditation and More

Here's five things you need to know today in Foxborough: The Foxborough High School football team holds its first official practice of 2012, a downed tree caused a Sunday power outage, guided meditation in town and more.

1. Monday Calls for Mostly Cloudy with a Chance of Showers

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for a slight chance of showers after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. Monday night: A slight chance of showers before 9 p.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

2. Foxborough High School Football Returns

The football team takes the field for its first official practice of the 2012 season Monday. The Warriors ended 2011 with a 4-7 record and a Thanksgiving Day loss to rival Mansfield.

3. Downed Tree Causes Sunday Power Outage in Foxborough

A downed tree on power lines on Oak Street caused “multiple power outages” Sunday, which affected over 200 residents in the area, according to National Grid. Foxborough resident Thomas M. Ledwith said he lost power on Oak Street around 11:30 a.m. and it wasn’t restored until just before 6 p.m. Foxborough Police and Fire units responded to the scene. 4. Events:

  • Donate Pants at Old Navy and Enter to Qin Tickets: Donate a pair of children or youth sized pants at Old Navy to Cradles to Crayons and receive 50 percent off an adult ticket to The Hall presented by Raytheon and be entered to win two tickets to The New England Country Music Festival. A winner will be chosen every day.
  • 11 a.m. - Summer Sensation 2012 - Creation Station: Join Patriot Place for hands-on art activities that explore a wide range of art media and tools. Today you can make a tropical ornament.
  • 8 p.m. - New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles: The New England Patriots host the Philadelphia Eagles for a preseason game at Gillette Stadium. .

5. Guided Meditation at

Give yourself the gift of an evening of just being from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Healing Moon Wellness Center in Foxborough.  Allow your mind to follow the guided meditation that will take you places your soul craves:  a waterfall, forest, or with the angels and guides. The Healing Moon Wellness Center staff says they will do a different topic each week. The mats, blankets, and pillows will be waiting for you. Cost is $15.
