5 Things for Aug. 17: Voter Registration Deadline, Pool Closing, Final Public Practice for Pats and More

Here's five things you need to know today in Foxborough: A cloudy Friday with a high near 85, last public practice for the New England Patriots and multiple fundraisers to support sports in town.

1. Cloudy with a High Near 85 Expected in Foxborough Friday

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a high near 85. Light southwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

2. Support Foxboro Midget Football at Waxy O’Connors with Jim Plunkett Friday

The Foxboro Midget Football program is holding a fundraiser at Friday night featuring musician Jim Plunkett.

A light buffet begins at 7 p.m. followed by a performance by Plunkett at 8 p.m.

"This is a great way to meet everyone involved with FMF and have a great time as well," organizers said in a press release.

Cost for the event is $20 and space is limited. Tickets can be purchased at the snack shack, online at www.fmfwarriors.org or at Waxy's.

Support FHS Golf

In other fundraising news, the Foxborough High School golf team will be “canning,” or collecting money in cans at Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 140 in Foxborough on Friday morning from 7 to 10 a.m. and at Stop & Shop on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon. Money donated will go towards the golf program and its upcoming season.

3. Voter Registration Deadline for State Primary is Today

The last day for Foxborough residents to register in town to vote in the Sept. 6 State Primary Election is today. Residents can register by stopping by Town Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Town Clerk's office.

4. Events:

  • Donate pants at Old Navy and enter to win tickets to the New England Country Music Festival: Donate a pair of children or youth sized pants at Old Navy to Cradles to Crayons and receive 50 percent off an adult ticket to The Hall presented by Raytheon and be entered to win two tickets to The New England Country Music Festival. There will be a winner named every day leading up to the two-day concert (Aug. 24 and 25).
  • 1:30 to 4 p.m. – Patriots Final Public Training Camp Practice: The New England Patriots will hold its final training camp practice open to the public Friday at the Gillette Stadium practice fields beginning at 1:30 p.m. Fans can get autographs of players after 4 p.m.
  • 7 to 9 p.m. - Tastings Wine Bar & Bistro – VinOlympics - Tastings wines holds Closing Ceremonies in the VinOlympics. Twenty wines from seven different countries competed for the closing ceremony gold medal award. Cost is $10.
  • 8 p.m. - Kix Brooks at Showcase Live: Best known as one-half of legendary country music superstars Brooks & Dunn, Kix Brooks has embarked on an exciting new solo career.
  • 9:30 p.m. - Thirty 6 Red appearing at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill: This New England band performs a wide variety of Rock and Roll covers spanning the decades.

5. Foxboro YMCA’s Outdoor Pool Closed Until Monday

The Foxboro YMCA’s outdoor pool will be closed until at least Monday, Aug. 20th due to some chemical and maintenance issues, according to Foxboro YMCA’s Facebook page.
