5 Things: Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, Jake n JOES Fundraiser for One Fund Boston & More

1. Expect a Chance of Showers Wednesday in Foxborough with a High Near 68

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for a chance of showers, mainly before 7 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 68. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Wednesday night: A slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 46. South wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

2. National Drug Take Back Day is Saturday in Foxborough

Children can begin a lifetime of drug addiction by simply opening the medicine cabinet at home. Misuse of prescription pain relievers has been linked to opiate addiction such as heroin.

Nationally, one in five teens in grades 9-12 report abuse of a prescription medication at least once in their lives, according to the 2009 Partnership for a Drug Free America.

In Foxborough, teens in grades 9-12 reported abuse of prescription medications, including taking pain relievers (11.7 percent), tranquilizers (6.6 percent) and stimulants (16.2 percent) not prescribed for them by a doctor at least once in their lives, according to the 2010 Communities that Care Survey.

Proper disposal of pharmaceuticals protects the environment and protects the community. On Saturday, April 27th, the Foxborough Board of Health is sponsoring a National Drug Take Back Day – a free medication take back and disposal program.

The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McGinty Room of the Foxborough Public Safety Building.

Medications being collected:

  • Old or unused medications including over-the-counter or prescriptions in all 
forms including pills, creams, liquids and sharps.

For veterinary medications, 
follow these simple steps:

  • Keep medications in original containers and black out personal information from label
  • Ensure medication name and dosage is visible
  • Count the pills remaining in advance

NOTE: Thermometers will not be accepted. Any/all personal information will be kept confidential.

3. Jake n JOES to Host Dinner Fundraiser for Marathon Victims

Jake n JOES Sports Grile, with locations in Norwood and Foxborough, will be hosting a fundraiser event on Tuesday, April 30th for The One Fund Boston, established to help the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Stop by Jake n JOES Tuesday for lunch, dinner or take-out and 20 percent of all sales will be donated to The One Fund Boston. For more information on this cause, click here.

5. Bon Jovi Announces The J. Geils Band Added to July 20th Concert in Foxborough

Bon Jovi announced Tuesday that Boston based rockers, The J. Geils Band, will join them as the special guest at select stadium concerts this summer, including the July 20th show at Gillette Stadium.

“BON JOVI Because We Can – The Tour” kicked off earlier this year; and night after night, Bon Jovi has given show-stopping performances to packed arenas across North America. The tour will head overseas in early May and will make its way back to the U.S. in July for the most highly anticipated stadium concerts of the summer.  The July 20th Foxborough show is sure to be an epic night of rock n’ roll music.
