Children, ages 13 months to 4.5 years old made hand crafted valentines with help from their Family Child Care Provider Laura J. Feeney.  These Valentines will be distributed to seniors at the Foxborough Senior Center, as well as those who receive lunch through the Rodman Center and Meals on Wheels programs.

In addition, the children made Valentines for their family members who are currently active in the United States military.

This activity, according to Feeney, is a fun way to foster important early education skills and continue her program’s community outreach tradition. The children painted, used tissue paper water color techniques, dot markers and hand print art to create the Valentine holiday artwork.  Feeney, who opened Butterfly Landing in 2011, feels that reaching out to the community, especially seniors and veterans is an important lesson not always learned in typical early childhood programs.

“Children’s art work is truly refreshing and inspiring!” she said. “They are not only learning about colors and shapes through art, they are developing sharing skills and a positive sense of self while creating.  It is my hope that these Valentines can bring a little sunshine and smile to whomever receives them this Valentine’s Day.”
