Amy Randall of Foxboro Leads Rainbow Girls in Massachusetts

The 88th annual "Under The Big Top with Massachusetts Rainbow" session of the Grand Assembly of Massachusetts, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, was held at the Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Friday, June 28 to Saturday June 29, 2013.  Grand Worthy Advisor, Megan E. Fowler, 18, of Westford, MA presided over the ceremonies as the culmination of a year of fun and service for Rainbow Girls from across the state.

More than 550 girls and advisors attended the Grand Assembly sessions from across Massachusetts, with visitors from Vermont, New Hampshire, Ohio, New Jersey, Connecticut, South Carolina, Rhode Island, California, Maine, and Canada. The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (www.GoRainbow.org) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 20 that promotes self-esteem, leadership and community service. Through meetings, ceremonies, service projects, and fun activities, girls make friends and learn leadership, public speaking, citizenship, and valuable lessons and skills to help them succeed in life and careers.

Miss Fowler was installed as Grand Worthy Advisor of the Grand Assembly of Massachusetts on June 23, 2012.  Her theme for the year was “Under the Big Top with Massachusetts Rainbow: Step Right Up and Join the Fun!.” Under her leadership, Rainbow Girls participated in many fun circus-themed activities throughout the year and collected more than 1.8 million soda can tabs and 500 toys, games and other items to support the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield and Boston.  Two proclamations were awarded to Fowler for her outstanding leadership this year; one from Governor Deval Patrick and the the second from the House of Representatives.

During the Grand Assembly sessions, girls from across the state received awards and recognition for their accomplishments.  The Grand Assembly of Massachusetts awarded ten scholarships to help members fund their college education.  The organization also awarded camperships to allow ten members to attend the Rainbow Camp of Massachusetts this summer at no cost.

“It is difficult to express how proud I am of Megan and all that she has accomplished this year,” said Miss Susan A. Torrey, Supreme Deputy in Massachusetts.  “She has been an outstanding role model for all the Rainbow Girls in Massachusetts, and has inspired us with her leadership skills, her passion and commitment to our organization, and the work she has done to support the children in the Shriners Hospitals in Springfield and Boston.”

The appointments of the new Grand Officers and Grand Representatives for the 2013-2014 year were announced on Friday evening, followed by the Open Installation of Grand Officers held on Saturday evening.  Miss Amy E. Randall, 18, of Foxborough, MA was installed as the new Grand Worthy Advisor and assumed leadership of the organization for the next year.  Randall announced that her theme will be “Weaving the Web of Friendship with Massachusetts Rainbow,” inspired by E. B. White’s popular children’s book Charlotte’s Web and by the quote from Helen Keller that “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much!.”  She has planned many fun activities for the Grand Officers, Grand Representatives, and other Rainbow Girls across the state focused on teamwork and a farm animal theme.  Some of the planned activities include a Country Fair complete with contests and games and a state-wide fun day at the Big E in Springfield.

Randall announced that her service project will be to support the Greater Boston Food Bank and local food pantries.  Her goal is to collect 2,000 pounds of food.  Her team of Grand Officers and Grand Representatives will be working with their Assemblies to collect and distribute food items to distribute within their own communities and to the Greater Boston Food Bank.

“This year is going to be a lot of fun!,” said Randall.  “The focus for the year is teamwork and proving that when we work together with excitement and enthusiasm we will be able to grow Massachusetts Rainbow and accomplish our goals.”
