There’s a block party on Cape Cod, about an hour away from Foxborough, soon. Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve’s watershed block party is the research and education facility’s biggest program, held Tuesday, Aug. 2 this year, event and volunteer coordinator Laurie Tompkins says. “We invite all of our watershed neighbors to come and exhibit,” she says, and there are hands-on activities, as well as “free ice cream and watermelon supplied by local vendors.” The Waquoit Bay Reserve is among 28 research and education facilities nationwide, she says. McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI offers an inexpensive alternative to Fenway Park for families and baseball fans. Tickets for the games range from $5 for seniors and children, to $11 for box seats. General admission tickets cost $7. Foxborough can be kid friendly and fun if you know where to go! Both the Boyden Library and Patriot Place offer wonderful opportunities for children to engage in educational and interactive activities each week. The Boyden Library is a great place to visit any day of the week with children, but on Tuesdays they offer two storytime sessions at 10 a.m and 11 a.m. The first session is geared toward three to five year-olds, while the later session is more fitting for ages three and under. The Nature Trail and Cranberry Bog at Patriot Place is located behind Bass Pro Shops in the Patriot Place South Marketplace. Unknown to many, the Bogs are maintained by Ocean Spray and are three years old. The Nature Trail offers a fun outdoor experience that includes a half-mile scenic walking trail and a variety of wildlife. Great Blue Heron, snakes, swans, mallards, wood ducks, Canada geese and more are often spotted along the trail. The trail also hosts the last remaining active cranberry bog in the town of Foxborough.
