Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Dear editor, I’ve been overwhelmed with phone calls, cards, and emails from folks thanking me for my past service.  I’d just like to publicly thank all who have supported me for the past six years as your selectman. I’ve truly enjoyed this experience and have learned so much.   I thank all the town employees and their department heads, as well as all the town committee members for answering my calls and questions, the town is fortunate to have each of you.  To my committee, Chris and Paula Mitchell, Deb Stewart, Paul Lanza, Mark and Sandy Emery, and Kris Long … thank you so much for …
Dear editor, The School Committee election is important in that many decisions affecting the citizens of Foxborough – particularly those decisions affecting our youth – will be determined during the upcoming three-year term.  We need to elect a candidate to the School Committee who can and will, based on demonstrated understanding of the issues, exhibit rational, intelligent, analytical, and independent thinking devoid of personal agenda – Stephen Udden is that candidate. I have known Steve for nearly seven years as a parent, friend, and public servant. He and I served on the Advisory …
To the Editor, Without a doubt, Foxborough is at a crossroads, a congested intersection in time. With the casino matter far behind us, solving critical issues of the day need our collective attention, as they relate to town finances, the need for capital improvements, better schools and community programs for all ages and enhanced public safety. This requires leadership on the Board of Selectmen with passion, balance and experience. Lynda Wash brings all this to the table. She has demonstrated over time the ability to listen, resolve issues, and work for interests of all Foxborough residents…
Dear Editor, This past Saturday I attended an event at American Legion Post #93 and was seated at a table that included selectman candidate Lynda Walsh and others. The event was a meat raffle that provides funds allowing the Legion to continue its support of many programs and charities around Foxboro. During the event somebody asked Lynda, “Why would you want to run for selectman?” Her answer was short and to the point. “Because I love this town and I want a voice at that table.” This told me all I needed to know to finalize my decision as to who would have the interest of the town and its …
To the Foxborough DPW workers, We moved to Chestnut Street this past November and just experienced our first major snowstorm in Foxborough we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for your efforts during – and after – the Blizzard of 2013. While we were waiting out the 29 inches of snow from the warmth of our home, you were all out there keeping up with the blizzard in cold and dangerous conditions. You have worked day and night with little to no rest for over three days just so people like us can get out of our homes and onto the roads. We know some have …
To all parents, Please remind your children to stay clear of the snow piles on the side of the roads! The plows will still be pushing back and as much fun as it may seem to slide down those piles or build a snow fort (as I did 50-plus years ago) it is NOT SAFE!!! We do not need to read about any tragedies in Foxborough. Also, when school does open, please make sure your children wait several feet off the road. There are often icy patches and even at a crawling pace if we hit a patch of ice at a bus stop the bus could slide a little or a car caught off guard could hit the brakes and slide as …
To the editor, The Hockomock Area YMCA’s annual Legends Ball is the signature event for our YMCA, raising funds to support our Integration Initiative.  The Integration Initiative provides children with special needs opportunities to participate alongside their typically developing peers in Y programs and activities.  Our 2012 Legends Ball along with the Legends Golf Classic raised more than $165,000 to support this important inclusion initiative. I would like to take this opportunity to offer our Y’s heartfelt appreciation to all those who have allowed this mission driven initiative to evolve…
Dear Editor, According to the 2010 Census, 2,305 people age 65 and older live in Foxborough, and every one of them should be deeply concerned about Republican Scott Brown’s health care policy.  The centerpiece of Brown’s health care policy is working to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the federal health care reform law known as ObamaCare.National health care advocacy organization Community Catalyst Action Fund released a new analysis finding that, if the Affordable Care Act (“ObamaCare”) is repealed, senior citizens in Foxborough and across Massachusetts will be saddled with higher costs and …
Dear Editor: I’m writing to express my full support for the re-election of U.S. Senator Scott Brown. Scott represents an independent voice for Massachusetts in Congress. I can personally attest to his sound judgment, great character, and bipartisan attitude from our time working together at the State House. Now, more than ever, we need leaders in Washington who are prepared to deal with not only the economic issues facing this country but the military ones as well. As a Lieutenant in the National Guard, Senator Brown has the background and the specific knowledge we need as our country faces a…
Editor's note: The following open letter was submitted for publication by The Kraft Group. In 2007, we worked in partnership with the Town of Foxborough to develop Patriot Place. We promised a development that would add to the quality of life for residents by attracting world class healthcare, lodging, dining, entertainment and shopping while adding millions annually to the Town’s revenue base. We have delivered on all of those goals, and we continue to attract sought-after businesses to Foxborough, as evidenced by last week’s opening of one of the largest Trader Joe’s in the Northeast. …
In this week's edition of Dear Patch, a Foxborough resident emailed editor Courtney Jansson the following question: "Dear Foxborough Patch, I am in my mid 30's and I was wondering if you had any suggestions on a local restaurant and activity that would make for a fun night out for an out-of-town friend this weekend?" There are lots of restaurant and activity options in and around Foxborough. Make your thoughts known in this week's Dear Patch in the comments section. As always, thanks for your participation.
In this week's edition of Dear Patch, a Foxborough resident emailed editor Courtney Jansson the following question: "Dear Foxborough Patch, I am new in town. Do you know where to go locally for a great pizza?" Foxborough residents are passionate about their pizza and have already started a discussion into this same question on Facebook. We know how competitive this question is, so we'll be leaving it up on the site Monday through Friday this week. There are lots of pizza options in Foxborough. Make your thoughts known in this week's Dear Patch in the comments section. As always, thanks for …
