Foxboro Sports Center's new addition has begun preparatory construction.
Foxborough town planner Susan Wason said the construction for the rink expansion project at the Foxboro Sports Center has begun in earnest in May. “The developer had it approved and he’s broken ground,” she said. Wason said the preparations and demolition of a building in the lot will commence in a few days. “The metal frame building sits in what will be the parking lot,” she said. “These two rows of parking are in, but the building is still sitting down. They just got the gas turned off, so they’re going to start to tear the building down and rough up the rest of the parking lot.” She added that for construction of the actual addition to the center to begin, the developer, Rich Touzos, has wait until May 23 to allow anyone to appeal the …

I'm hoping to drive my old beater into the ground before we need to get another car, but I'm on the lookout. What's your next car going to be?
My wife and I drive a perfectly good 2002 Nissan Sentra with 127,318 miles on it. "Stella" has four wheels and gets us from Point A to Point B. We've reached the stage in the life of the car where we don't repair body damage (as you can tell from the accompanying photo). I'm ashamed for my Dad to see it. But hey, it's paid for. Even though I'd love to get 200K miles out of Stella, she has some mechanical problems, like a seized bolt that has left the transmission fluid unchangeable for about eight years. She could conk out any old day. So we've been on the lookout for our next car. I'm paying attention to car commercials, asking friends about their cars. You know the feeling. We're looking for something that gets good gas mileage, and is …

Foxborough will be looking at their sale and penalty regulations regarding tobacco during a public hearing in June.
Foxborough's Board of Health is currently considering changes to the town’s tobacco laws. “They need some tightening up,” said Foxborough Health Director Pauline Clifford. “We’re having a hearing on June 24. We’ll discuss it that night, listen for public comment and could adopt it that evening." The board tentatively voted in favor of 10 changes to the regulations. If the draft regulation changes go into effect, they would ban vending machines and self service displays, expand all regulations to include nicotine delivery devices, ban of tobacco sales in educational institutions, ban roll your own cigarette machines and ban blunt wraps. While tobacco sales in educational institutions are now banned, health care institutions are not. The …

Owner Bruce Loewen shares his story of opening his own business in Foxborough.
Bruce Loewen started Loewen’s Deli about four years ago, despite protests, at the time, from his family. “When I opened up I put my last bit of everything into it,” he said. “My wife was flipping out. I mean she always trusts me, but whatever money I had left went into here.” Four years later, Loewen said it was well worth it, and he said his wife agrees. “She put a lot of her heart into this,” he said. “She comes in and helps out a lot.” Loewen said he was working in another field, but his heart was always in food when he decided to embark on his new business venture. “You know, I had a business in construction for 18 years and I always dreamt of doing a deli,” he said. “I thought about it for a long time. My dad was a firefighter and …
