Retired Treasurer/Tax Collector For the Town of Foxborough

Barbara A. Germaine, age 75, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Catherine (Meaney) Maloney.

Barbara was born in Amesbury on Aug. 31, 1937 and was a graduate of St. Bernard High School in Fitchburg. She has been a resident of Plainville for the past two years and was a former longtime resident of Foxborough.

Barbara was the Collector/Treasurer for the Town of Foxborough for over 23 years. She was elected as Collector in May of 1977 and in May of 1982 she was elected as Treasurer. From then until 1995 Barbara held both offices, never having lost an election. In 1995 her dual functions as Collector/Treasurer were changed to the appointed position of Revenue Officer, which she held until her retirement in October, 2000. During her tenure, Barbara was Secretary of the Norfolk County Municipal Finance Officers for 20 years. As Collector/Treasurer, Barbara played a key role in the development of the first computer systems used by the town for tax accounting.

Barbara was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She is
survived by her sister Arlene Henault of Fitchburg along with many neices and nephews and their children. Included in Barbara’s own family are her children Gail MacLean (and husband Alan) of Texas, John Germaine of Foxborough, Judi Plante (and husband Dick) of Aruba, her grandchildren Ashley, Alex, Tia, Chris and Jeff (now deceased), her great grandchildren Dillon and Emma and her life partner Guy Devine of Plainville.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough.
