What's Closed on Veterans Day Monday
Here's a look at what is opened and closed in Foxborough on Veterans Day, a federal holiday.
Veterans Day—formerly Armistice Day—dates back to 1918, when Allied nations and Germany agreed to cease fire on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Nov. 11.
The Treaty of Versailles wasn’t signed until the following June, officially ending the war, but Nov. 11 is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”
Along the way, the national holiday grew to become a day to honor veterans from all wars. Veterans Day 2012 was Sunday but many will observe the federal holiday Monday, meaning a lot of people will have the day off from work.
Here’s how the closures may impact you:
Government offices: Federal, state, county and municipal offices and courts will be closed.
Emergency services: Law enforcement and firefighters will still be on duty and provide 24-hour service.
Postal: Post offices will be closed and there will be no delivery. Access to post office boxes will remain as usual.
Schools: Foxborough Public Schools will be closed Monday to observe the holiday.
Libraries: The Boyden Library at Chestnut Green will be closed for Veterans Day.
Garbage: Russell Disposal says its trash and recycling schedule will not be picked up on Veterans Day and will be delayed one day. Click here for more information.
Banks: Most banks will be closed Monday.
