Snow Disrupts Foxborough School Calender
Staff development day canceled; school will be held this Friday.
Foxborough Public Schools are now scheduled for a full day of school this Friday because of the amount of time lost to snow days this winter.
Superintendent, Dr. Christopher Martes, announced an unscheduled proposal at the start of the School Committee meeting that called on the committee to vote to move Staff Development Day, originally scheduled for this Friday, to the end of the school year in June. Staff Development Day, which gives students a full day off, allows school faculty the opportunity to spend the day working with their colleagues to improve instruction for Foxborough schools.
This proposal, which was approved 5-0 by the committee, canceled the 3-day weekend that many students and families were looking forward to.
Martes, however, felt it was important to take action early in order to control the amount of time tacked onto the end of the school year because of snow.
With more snow scheduled to hit Wednesday night into Thursday day, Martes realized the potential for another snow day.
"Many schools are already considering taking time away from April vacation. I am hoping to avoid that by implementing this new proposal," said Martes.
The committee was mostly concerned about families who have already made plans for the weekend.
"Teachers and faculty will work to accommodate families and students who have already made plans," said Martes.
The school committee thanked Martes for being proactive on the situation.
