Report: Local Towns May Combine Veterans' Districts

Foxborough is looking into a proposal that may join a four-town veterans' district.

Foxborough officials met this week to discuss a possible proposal that would regionalize Foxboro's veteran’s services with Easton, Norton and Mansfield. The proposal is part of an effort to share resources in lean economic times.

According to the Sun Chronicle, Foxborough's Town Manger Kevin Paicos said a proposal to regionalize Foxboro's veterans services could enhance veterans services for the town and aid in gaining a "higher paying directorship" for a qualified Michael Johns, Veterans Services Officer for Foxborough.

Paicos said that it would cost the town more to be involved in a veteran’s district than it's current cost of housing one full-time veterans agent, according to the report. However, Paicos made it clear that a small town such as Foxborough would not be able to hang onto Johns forever, who is highly qualified for the job.

According to the Sun Chronicle, the four town veterans' services district would have at least four full-time employees, a director, two clerks and a veteran’s agent, under state law.

Johns could have a good chance of beginning in an agent position in the district, the article reports.

Mansfield is looking into buying into the veteran’s district, where Norton and Easton are already apart.
