New Miss Foxboro is Crowned

Ashleigh Chaves of Taunton is the new Miss Foxboro. She is the first one in 34 years.

It’s been 34 years since the last Miss Foxboro was crowned. 

Saturday night, the last reigning Miss Foxboro, Diana Ciasullo Awbrey took her final walk and crowned a new winner. 

The third time for was the charm for Ashleigh Chaves of Taunton.

She competed in Miss Taunton and Miss Middleborough in 2010 and 2011, and was first runner up in both. Saturday evening, she was crowned as the new Miss Foxborough 2012.  

Chaves, the 21-year-old daughter of David and Donna Chaves of Taunton, will graduate from Bridgewater State University in 2012.

She is a member of the Bridgewater State University Forensics Speech and Debate Team and served as captain of the Coyle and Cassidy Cheerleading Squad.

Additionally, she is the recruitment chair for her Sorority Phi Sigma Sigma and a substitute teacher in the Taunton Public School system.

Chaves will pursue her Masters in Special Education following completion of a Bachelors in Elementary Ed and Psychology.

The newly crowned Miss Norfolk County, Taylor Kinzler of Lakeville, is the daughter of  Cory and Michael Arter and has held the title of Miss Massachusettes Outstanding Teen 2008 , and placed 1st Runner up at Miss Mass 2010 and was second Runner up in Miss Mass 2011.

She competed in Miss America's National Sweetheart Pageant where she won the overall group interview, She also formerly held the title of Miss New Bedford 2011.  

Kinzler is a sophomore journalism major at the University of Rhode Island and plan to pursue a career as a broadcast journalist upon graduation.

Each girl competed in and showcased four areas:  articulation on her commitment to her platform community service, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit, talent and evening wear. Both Chaves and Kinzler were recipients of a $1,250 scholarship

The Miss America Organization heads 53 state programs, including the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico,as well as hundreds of local programs such as Miss Foxboro/Miss Norfolk County who combine to make available more than 45 million dollars in cash and tuition scholarship assistance every year, making the organization one of the nation’s leading achievements programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women.

The competition was also a venue for the Princess Program.  This program sponsored by the Miss America Organization is designed to teach young ladies, ages 6-12 the opportunity to be mentored by Miss Foxboro and Miss Norfolk County to learn the secrets of their success, and learn everything from etiquette, community service and stage presence.

The Princess Program is not a competition, but a way for the girls to have fun and feel special about them. The Foxborough Miss Princess Court Pageant Princesses participating in the program were crowned on-stage during the pageant finale.

The goal of the Miss Foxborough Scholarship Association is to promote and support businesses and civic organization in the community, while providing support to young women who wish to further their education in their chosen field.
