'Moving Forward'- Theme in Boyden Library Renovation Discussion

Library, Neighbors gathered at Town Hall to discuss Boyden Library Renovation developments.

"Get this thing moving," echoed Foxborough resident Dick Hydecker at Tuesday nights Boyden Library discussion at Town Hall.

The Library trustees, permanent building committee and neighbors gathered at Town Hall Tuesday night to discuss the latest developments with selectmen concerning the Boyden Library Renovation Project.

Baker Street resident, Jeffrey Davis, spoke to selectmen on behalf of the neighbors. He informed the board that the neighbors have hired Foxboro attorney Mark Stopa to represent their concerns over the alleged failure of notice of an important zoning hearing from the zoning board. The neighbors are also seeking legal representation over the changed library designs.

"We [the neighbors] think there should be a library - we just believe that this is not the right design," said Davis. "There are some serious legal issues, this thing can drag out - we want to move forward to do the best thing for the town."

Moving forward was the main theme throughout the evening between all parities. Jeffrey Lovely, chairman of Boyden Library board, added his thoughts on the matter when saying, "we can't make it go away or build it somewhere else but we are willing to work with the neighbors."

Selectman James DeVellis spoke shortly after Davis stating that the library renovation project was "a well-aired out project" to the town.

"We have a project that the town said build – we are going to lose the grant and money spent already" said DeVellis. "From my perspective it is going in the right direction and at the end of the day I am confident the budget will be addressed and the process will be the best that it can."

Selectmen Mark Sullivan expressed his concern over the "tone" he was hearing throughout the evening.

"I am hearing this tone out there," Sullivan cautiously said. "I would like to see that this can be worked out. Lets stay out of court with this one – don’t go toe-to-toe with the neighbors because it will never work out in your favor.”

The Library Trustees along with their architect will present the latest library design on June 6 at 7pm in the library's Fuller Room.
