Foxboro Never Forgets to Receive September 11 Artifact

Selectmen Lynda Walsh announced Tuesday night, May 24, that Foxboro Never Forgets, a group in Foxborough established to ensure that Foxboro never forgets the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001, has been approved to receive a piece of steel from the World Trade Center Artifacts Project to use in the towns September 11th Memorial. Chief Hatfield and Chief O’Leary were both instrumental in getting the approvals needed to receive the artifact.

Chris Mitchell, organizer of Foxboro Never Forgets, will be traveling to New York on June 2, 2011 to pick up the artifact. The artifact's estimated time of arrival in Foxborough is between 1 and 2 p.m. Upon arrival, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the memorial at the Foxboro Public Safety Building. All Selectmen, town officials, and citizens are encouraged to attend.

The fundraising for the September 11th Memorial started on Foxborough Founders Day in 2010. In today’s economy, raising the funds needed has been challenging.  Foxboro Never Forgets is within $30,000.00 of their goal. The order for the granite needed to construct  Foxboro’s  September 11th  Memorial has been placed and the group is confident that through the good citizens of Foxboro they will reach their goal. Foxboro Never Forgets is hopeful that the Memorial will be built and dedicated this September which will mark the 10th Anniversary of September 11.

In addition to the September 11th Memorial, the cornerstone of Foxboro Never Forgets is to promote community service. Last year over 1,700 hours of community service was performed. Foxboro Never Forgets will be promoting a day of community service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11th on September 10. The group is asking all non profits , school groups, church groups, and citizens to perform some kind of community service in remembrance of September 11th.

McGinty Family Fun Day will also be held again on the Foxboro Common on September 10th. 2 Scholarships for $2500.00 will be awarded this year in memory of Michael McGinty.
