5 Things for Oct. 30: Hurricane Sandy Leaves Foxborough Powerless, Closes School and Forces Emergency Meeting at Town Hall

1. Expect Rain Tuesday but Calmer Winds in Foxborough

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for showers, mainly after 8 a.m. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. High near 68. Breezy, with a southeast wind 11 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Tuesday night: Showers, mainly before 1 a.m. Patchy fog after 10 p.m. Low around 53. Southeast wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

2. Town Officials to Meet Again Tuesday Morning at Town Hall

When Foxborough town officials met with department heads at Town Hall Monday morning they were confident they would not have to meet again. But Hurricane Sandy packed enough of a punch to cause severe damage to the town’s Union Loop, which is expected to lead to multi-day power outages in town. It will be the third such scenario caused by a storm for Foxborough in two years. Officials are expected to meet with National Grid president Marcy Reed Tuesday as well. 4. Board of Selectmen to Meet Tuesday

Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting will still be held at 7 p.m. at Town Hall as of Tuesday morning. The board is expected to discuss the South Coast Rail Technical Assistance Awards FY13, her an update on Pavement Management System, review Special Town Meeting Warrant Articles, receive an update on the status of negotiations with the Kraft Group and provide the public with an update on the recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy.

5. No School in Foxborough Tuesday

For the second consecutive day, Hurricane Sandy has closed Foxborough Public Schools, according to Superintendent of Schools Debra Spinelli. Click here for more.
